Army: No more kissing soldiers on St. Patrick’s in Savannah

https://wtop.com/holidays/2018/03/army-no-more-kissing-soldiers-on-st-patricks-in-savannah/

"SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The Army wants to halt a favorite St. Patrick’s Day shenanigan in Savannah that for decades has left marching soldiers with lipstick-smeared cheeks.

Roughly 200 soldiers from nearby Fort Stewart are expected to march in the coastal Georgia city’s sprawling St. Patrick’s Day parade March 17. Traditionally, women wearing bright lipstick dart from the crowd to plant kisses on the faces of passing troops.

A Fort Stewart spokesman and the parade’s chief organizer said Thursday the Army wants the soldier smooching stopped.

Fort Stewart spokesman Kevin Larson said the marching soldiers “need to look professional” and “red lipstick is not part of the uniform.”

Brian Counihan is chairman of the Savannah parade’s organizing committee. He says having spectators dash into the moving parade raises safety and security concerns."

Welcome to the new Army.

Yet, they are all too willing to let you get a "loppadickoffame" and wear high-heels.

We've lost our freaking minds.

Well, what if it's gay men wearing the lipstick and kissing the soldiers? In today's upside down world that has to be okay, right? :D

We haven't, but we should be doing something about those that have.

My goodness gracious! WTH! This is a joke, right??? They have nothing better to do than micro-manage this?

Would give a kiss on the cheek, and the only safety concern would be if my red lipstick was put on correctly! Damn.. :p

This is the epitome of the post-9/11 and SJW era we live in... Surprised this was never a concern of national security:rolleyes:

I never had more than 2 beers at the Yntema club.
First beer....
eat chili dogs
eat some French fries
drink beer
watch strippers
...last beer

1st Beer + Last Beer = 2 beers

The old timers used to drinking at the Annexes were a tad impressed with the Yntema Club when it first opened. Go Go dancers, cold beer and chicken gizzards for lunch.

Perfect location too....walk uphill from the Team Room on Sontay and downhill home.
MFF course was right over the rim in that big tin building too backside of the parking lot. Handy.

Of course they had to stop this horrible tradition--my God, people, this was nothing more than government-sanctioned, publicly-encouraged, mass sexual assault on those poor soldiers!

The entertainment on stage at the Yntema was probably never going to get a job offer from Hugh Heffner, but as a single soldier living just across the street in the barracks...
...more than sufficient

Now - getting kissed on the cheek by a drunken party-girl is apparently all it takes to completely undermine good order and discipline.

Only for lower ranking scum.

If it was a general he could invite them into his ride and take them back to his place for a little R & R.

Ah, you young guys.

How about the Puerto Riccan Knife and Gun Club on Yadkin Road right before you go off post (late 70's). Turned that into a Class 6 store for many a year.

Gone now because of I-295.

That whole subdivision of O Quarters at the corner of Reilly and Yadkin is gone also.

Spent many an afternoon there when nothing was going on. Kinda' back out of the way from casual observation.

Went there for lunch one Friday afternoon and it was getting close to 1300. The SGM looked around and said "Hell, I got all the Team Sergeants here - we'll just have formation here." And we did.

First post fail, Moshers.

Not in the right place and you didn't follow the board instruction.

Next post had better be in the right place.

And fill out your profile so we know who we're talking to.

The real reason for this change of policy is discrimination. By only allowing women to participate, it is an offense to the LBGT community. ;)

so - what is JAG going to do when a young gal rushes in to give a lipstick stain to Joe and while following published guidelines, Joe hip checks her, then puts the boots to her...
...self defense from her physical assault and all that jazz

When I was a young 2LT, my platoon sergeant once told me, "Sir, it is never a good idea to put forth guidance you can't reasonably enforce. If you do this, the guidance will be consistently breached and - in the eyes of the men - you'll lose the power of your command."

This was told to me in response to a directive by our battalion commander that soldiers were not allowed to curse during the course of a normal duty day.

Anyway, my platoon sergeant eventually made sergeant major. :-)

The battalion commander no doubt went on to be a military adviser for obama. That was some sage advice you got from your PSG. What year was this? No cursing?

That has been a rule of some Bn Commanders and CSMs since at least the 70's.

Every once in a great while one would show up and put the word out. The response was typically "He has got to be kidding."

Since neither was around troops much it didn't have much impact.

That's kind of funny, our Bn. Cdr. in 78 thought he was Patton. I will never forget the day he got the whole Bn. in the theatre and called us all Sons of Bitches. I always called cadence on our PT runs and some of it was pretty salty. I am sure that in today's coed Combat Engineer world that sort of language would not be tolerated.

maybe they are only allowed to have lipstick in uniform when they are marching in a pair of red hooker-heels

hard to keep up with all of the gender fluid rules of accepted social behavior

Year? 1996.

My platoon sergeant was among the top ten NCOs I've ever served in 20 years of service. And, that's saying something considering I served most of those years in SF. He was the youngest E-7 in the unit, the most physically fit soldier, and the most accomplished NCO in the unit (military training, eduction, etc.). I was very lucky to have that quality of mentorship during my first military assignment after being commissioned. "My job, sir" he would say, "is to grow you into a kick-ass company commander". I hope I did not disappoint him.

Apparently, some ladies either didn’t get the memo or simply blew off the army hand-wringers and did it anyway. :p

On top of that, VP Mike Pence showed up and marched in the parade. It was rather fun shouting down the LQB`JM#KI_V@ freaks across the street with “USA” as the VP stopped in front of us before continuing along the parade route. :D:D
