Congratulation to the guys at Spartan Blades

Military.com 2 Feb 2018 By Matthew Cox

Spartan Blades now has a wicked little fixed blade that might make you want to replace your favorite folder.

The Formido features a 3.875-inch blade, tanto-style point and a skeletonized handle.

"It's designed for everyday carry," Mark Carey, owner of Spartan Blades, said at SHOT Show 2018. "It's a very good size for all around use, whether it's survival or defense or utility."

The blade is fashioned from S35VN steel, which "is the best American blade steel there is," Carey said.

"It holds an edge about three to four times longer than any traditional stainless," he said.

The handle and blade are treated with SpartaCoat PVD coating with a Tungsten DLC in black or ZrN-base in Flat Dark Earth.

"It's the same coating as FN machine guns and Sig Sauer pistols use," Carey said.

To bad the cut outs were not sized for bolts of standard mtn bike wheels, gas regulators on weapons or hex wrenches so it could be used as a T-handle.

Thanks for the post. The Formido is doing really well. Point taken on the handle being able to serve double duty, but we were making a knife and really not thinking multi-tool. Maybe next time!:D

my question:

Curtis and I saw a need (has lots of customers ask for it) for a 4" skeletonized blade, he had a new blade shape in mind, so we made it. Of course we had a couple revisions of his design, but that is really it. We either make something because we want to or customer requests.

That said, we will not be making swords or axes anytime soon, despite requests. Those are a whole different animal than knives and another learning curve we are not wanting to work on right now.

All the best, stay safe!
