Thank you President Trump, you will have my vote again next term.

Liberal CNN publishes column asking to ban the term ‘fake news’
By Brian Flood | Fox News

CNN wants to ban the term "fake news?"
In an opinion piece on the cable news network's website Sunday, writers Hossein Derakhshan and Claire Wardle called for scrapping the term President Trump has made synonymous with CNN. The duo wrote that use of the term “fake news” is “not only self-defeating, it oversimplifies a very complex problem” and it devalues the expression that has “become meaningless” over the past year.

The phrase is now “used to describe any piece of information that someone else didn't like” and has been “has become weaponized by politician,” Derakhshan and Wardle wrote, adding the term should be used when referring to clearly false content such as the viral photo of a shark swimming up a Texas highway during Hurricane Harvey (spoiler alert: the photo wasn’t real).

Derakhshan and Wardle recently co-authored a report, "Information Disorder," which was commissioned by the Council of Europe. They claim the problem exists all over the world, but most Americans likely associate “fake news” with CNN, thanks to President Trump's relentless branding.
CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker has implemented an anti-Trump programming strategy at the network that was once known for Ted Turner's bare bones "just-the-facts" approach to journalism. As a result, Trump refers to CNN as “fake news” on a regular basis and mocked the network on Twitter as recently as Monday.

Well CNN, maybe if you’d check the facts of your story every now and then, and reported across the board a little more evenly (just a little bit even), then you’d be on the level with FOXNews. You’d still have a long way to go to be fair news.

CNN = Self inflicted wound meets self licking ice cream cone!

I agree, we should get rid of the term "fake news". First, CNN, MSNBC and every other news organization that has willingly and knowingly created, distributed or otherwise participated in fake news should immediately be disbanded.

Take that first step where you take responsibility for your "fake news" actions, then we'll talk.

Just a thought, but instead of "fake news" wouldn't we all be much more correct to just use the word, "lies" ???

"Fake News" is just another step down the road towards becoming Oceania. If we are going to drop the use of the word "lies" in favor of "fake news" then I say - FUCK IT - lets do this shit the right way. Instead of fake news, lets call it what it REALLY is - double-unreal-truth

Hell, the left has been complaining about being 'malquoted' for decades now and it doesn't seem to bother anyone. They have even recently claimed that the 'dossier' and the WAPO story about Moore are little more than 'misprints'

Who is really to say that anyone on the right should be allowed to speak critically of the prolefeed that CNN and the major networks have been feeding the masses?

For fuck sake folks, the left has been using Newspeak for 40 years now - the only reason they don't like the term 'fake news' is because it doesn't match the naming convention.

I feel like you are trying to use the word 'terrorism' describe the systematic use of violent behavior as a means of social coercion, when what you are actually referring to is what Janet Napolitano used to call “man-caused disasters.”

Do we need to continue to rely on the politics of fear? Besides, global warming is going to kill us all !!

Lets stop using words like "terrorism" and "fake news" and "email server" and lets begin to focus on things that are really important.......

They missed the boat. They should have copyrighted the term "Fake News" and just OWNED it.

CfNN... Your prime source for FAKE

Americans are morons... they'd watch just BECAUSE it was all fake, inflammatory and alarmist because it fits the average sheeple predisposed opinion of the world.

So lets break it down; these holier than thou media outlets cant stop tooting their own horns about how much integrity they have...
scads of it
no appearance of impropriety
none
not even a little

...we would never intentionally run a fake story as truth. The networks have too much integrity to "lie" and before any of you older folks try to bring up the game-show scandals of the 60's and 70's - or reality TV shams of the new millennium - I am only talking about news - not fake game shows or reality TV

I am also not talking about what NBC did to scare the shit out of everyone that owned a Chevy truck. NBC even went as far as admitting that they rigged the crash - but again, the GMC truck incident doesnt count because it wasn't a breaking news story, it was investigative journalism.

When 20/20 ran a story in the late 70's that pretty much ALL Fords were going to blow up in a crash, they were not reporting "fake news" they were just tagging on to the Pinto craze - pay no mind that the car in the ABC 20/20 story about 'Beyond the Pinto' was intentionally rigged with an incendiary device... it still was not "fake news" -

In fact, look up Byron Bloch and see who he is - Maybe you will find an "industry expert" that makes a very nice living out of being an expert witness in unsafe vehicle court cases...
Maybe you will find a guy that loves baseball, hot dogs, apple pie, and Chevrolets
What you may also find is a guy that the networks just happened to hire as a consultant on 20/20 and Dateline NBC during episodes that featured honest truthful investigative journalism about unsafe automobiles (that just happened to be rigged to burst into flames)

...draw your own conclusions

Just know, the media would NEVER lie to you because they live and die by the first amendment.

Thank God for '60 Minutes' because even though we cannot trust ABC or NBC we all know that CBS would never compromise journalistic integrity in the name of higher news ratings...
...now before any of you get all uppity with me, I am also NOT talking about the investigative journalism that 60-Minutes employed to forever-after label the CJ Series Jeep as a dangerous roll-over machine.

This episode doesn't count because the Jeep DID IN FACT roll over 8 times. The detail that this fine bit of investigative journalism missed was that it took 435 J-Turns to produce those 8 roll-overs. It was also later uncovered by the National Highway Transportation Safety Board that the conditions were manipulated to produce worst-case scenario results, but again, I a not counting this as fake news because there were in fact, 8 rollovers.
...I'm also excluding the 60-Minutes bit that showed the locking rings on some truck tires exploding and "killing" crash test dummies. Even though the tires were rigged, they did in fact "kill" these innocent crash test dummies. Plus, "60-Minutes" is a fucking Emmy Award Winning TV show; how can you be overly critical of a show that has an award for its honest, transparent investigative journalism ????

Do some link analysis... see how many of the top executives from the major networks are bound by SUBSTANTIAL financial and quite conspicuous if not obvious social ties to the dem0cratic leadership that always seem to push for certain types of legislation every time one of these fantastic stories hits the airwaves.

CNN is quite justified in their outrage - the freedom of the press is an all-encompassing blank check that affords news outlets the freedom to present whatever degree of bullshit they desire in a consequence-free environment without having to listen to a bunch of complaints from people with differing political views.

Its just odd that liberals love to talk about Ethics - they love to force college students into taking ethics classes to learn about how important it is to buy Toms Shoes or Fair Trade Coffee, and ethical consumerism - they love to drag your degree pursuit through a minefield if silly ethical studies on the Ford Pinto and Enron...
...all the while they seem so willing to praise politicians that get in bed with Solyndra, media personalities that make up 'fake news', and movie producers that make their employees fuck for work. Then they are surprised when Donald J Trump wins the general election by over 70 electoral votes.

harumph - harumph - harumph

fuck you CNN - get over yourselves

Maybe I am mis-remembering all of this, but wasn't the term "fake news" originally coined to describe that ad content disguised as news stories that shows up on various web pages? Ads are generated based on keywords on the page and are made to look like links to related news stories. IIRC, South Park last year had a story arc parodying this development.

Then, Democratic political figures and the mainstream media (but I repeat myself) started using the term to attack FoxNews, Breibart, and other news sources, as well as to lump these sources with less reputable blogs and sites.

So it was the left which first began using the term to describe not genuinely fake content disguised as news, but to describe news content they did not like. And now that President Trump successfully turned the tables on them, they don't like the term anymore.

Somewhat similarly, "political correctness" was originally coined by the left, but by the 1990s, conservative and libertarian critics had succeeded in co-opting the term as a criticism of this left-wing mentality.

Back in the day Brian Ross would have gotten away with making false claims like this. Damn that internet.....:munchin

ABC has sustained withering criticism from all corners of the internet since the error first became known Friday.
"We deeply regret and apologize for the serious error we made yesterday," the network continued in its latest statement. "The reporting conveyed by Brian Ross during the special report had not been fully vetted through our editorial standards process. "As a result of our continued reporting over the next several hours ultimately we determined*the information*was*wrong*and we corrected the*mistake*on air and online," it concluded.
It's not the first time Ross has come under fire for playing fast and loose with the facts, either. In 2012, he falsely suggested that the Aurora shooter Jim Holmes had been a member of the Colorado Tea Party -- he was not.

Remember The CNN FAKE NEWS STORY, "OPERATION TAILWIND" Peter Arnett narrated a story for CNN/TIME magazine an "investigated report" about this covert Special Forces Operation into Laos from 11-13 September 1970. Thirty years later April Oliver, Jack Smith, Pam Hill and others falsely reported this Operation as "Valley of Death" claiming That U S Forces (MACV-SOG) along with a Montagnard commando team (Hatchet Force) used SARIN NERVE GAS along with other war crimes acts to Kill U S MILITARY PERSONNEL who had defected to Laos. The reaction and internal investigation led to a RETRACTION by CNN/TIME of the FAKE (outright lying) NEWS and the firing of Oliver,Smith,Hill and the resignation of Peter Arnett. The Special Forces Association sued CNN/TIME-Warner along with 11 veterans who were part of the defamation law suit, April Oliver The CNN producer who was fired also sued. CNN has paid costly settlements as a result of Their FAKE NEWS........Tom Kelly

I'm pleased to see that the honest news media won't let this story go away. With all the fake news of the day we need to be reminded that it's been going on for a long time. Damn that internet... Anyone know what ever happened to Peter Arnett

I'm all for truth in advertising so would support captioning that translated things like "lack of candor", "dissembled", "unnamed source" as:

Liar.

Then again, what's the cost of leaving non-discerning people on their own?
Darwin Awards, or votes?

Make it a requirement that after every story they give up who paid for the content "This News story was sponsored by _________________" PBS does this!
Get with the program CNN,CBS,FOX,CNBC. It is not exposing the source of the story but who paid to follow the story lead.

Funny how leftist professors require copious amounts of citations for almost any data point used in an academic paper but leftist news sources tell people they should take them at their word.

The prophetic song from 1983 just a few years after TNN-CNN started in 1980 the evening news was already starting to become slightly more infotainment......Is Ted Turner a hero of the left??

Don Henley – Dirty Laundry Lyrics

I make my living off the Evening News
Just give me something-something I can use
People love it when you lose,
They love dirty laundry

Well, I coulda been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed-bleach-blonde who
Comes on at five
She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam
In her eye
It's interesting when people die-
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation?
Is the head dead yet?
You know, the boys in the newsroom got a
Running bet
Get the widow on the set!
We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out what's going on
You don't really want to know just how far it's gone
Just leave well enough alone
Eat your dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're stiff
Kick 'em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers in everybody's pie
We love to cut you down to size
