There was a memorial service held yesterday for brother-in-law's father, Lt Col Robert Schubert USAF (retired).
He is survived by two sons, many grandchildren, and was preceded in death by his wife and daughter.
During his career, he logged over 10,000 hours flying military aircraft, flew around 850 combat missions, including 100 missions in B-52s in Vietnam.
IIRC, he was, at the time, the youngest ever B-52 instructor pilot and near the end of his career was promised command of the first operational B-1 before President Carter cancelled the program.
He enjoyed a very long retirement, spending a good deal of time with his children and grandchildren.
RIP Bob, and thank you for your service.
