I guess it's easier to demand gun control and pretend like we've done something real to deal with a very serious issue. We live in a violent culture. Our movies, our books, our music, our sports and our video games embrace and glorify violence. I remember reading that your average 18 year old man has seen simulated acts of violence 10,000 times before he is old enough to vote. Taking guns away still won't address the underlying issue and that is the belief if that someone has aggrieved you that violence is the only legitimate solution. I'm not saying that there aren't times when the use of violence is illegitimate, but shooting up a church full of people you don't know to get even with your former inlaws isn't, and no amount of gun control laws will protect people from twisted logic like that.

...just another empty-headed celebrity power-couple that confuses their job with national reality and simply assumes that being on a stage makes you smarter than everyone else

The problem is that he, like all of the other mass shooters that weren't muzzies, were "diagnosed" as a hyperactive boy and put on psychotropic drugs to keep him in line. Well, they grow up, stop taking the drugs, and get out of line. It's the collateral damage of not letting boys-be-boys when they are boys.

2016:

gun deaths 33,599 - Only 11,208 gun related HOMICIDES

car deaths 33736

drug deaths 59,000 to 65,000

If we excluding firearm related suicides, this only leaves 11,208 Firearm related HOMICIDES.
Although suicide is tragic, these likely have a very high percentage chance of happening anyway without a firearm, so can't really be counted as gun related deaths.

Also do the homicide stats incl deaths of someone in the act of a crime...I bet they do. Again, not really a gun related homicide.

Now subtract the deaths related to an illegal weapon, which is unlikely to have been mitigated by legislation.

Now subtract the number of lives likely saved by a honourable bystander with a firearm taking action to save lives (i.e. Stephen Willeford of the Texas church shooting)

I'd be interested in those numbers. I suspect they are extremely low.

Yeah, I know I'm preaching to the choir...

That number moves around a bit +/- 100/yr but according to the FBI (IIRC) when you remove all the gang, suicide, domestic violence (victim known to killer), etc... it’s generally about 500/yr. making us one of the safest nations in the world. If you subtracted urban (big city) from rural that number (IIRC) is about 10 (up a bit this year.)

The homicide rate is the lowest it has been in decades. Lower than in the 1970's for sure. Yes that is not what Commie News Netwothless put out.

The murder rate rose 22 percent between 2014 and 2016 in the U.S.

Its Bushes fault. :p

What is it compared to the 70's and 80's?

Where did it rise? Nationally or in specific areas?

How many were due to firearms?

https://qz.com/1086403/fbi-crime-statistics-us-murders-were-up-in-2016-and-chicago-had-a-lot-to-do-with-it/Doesn't cover the decade previous but here's a 28-yr period summarized by a DoJ report (https://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/pdf/htus8008.pdf) (1980-2008). There are some interesting, as well as not surprising, data therein. Have fun.

Wait about five years for the analysis and statistics to catch up with BHO’s time and the introduction of BLM, Antifa and others. We already see what Rhalm Emanuel (sic) has done for Chicago and that mayor of Baltimore. The downward trend has been bucked - thanks a$$hole!

The current mayor of B-more is still suffering from the policies of that loser (and Presidential candidate) O'Malley..... May he burn in liberal hell.

It would seem that these 2 clowns have forgotten who their base audience is made up of. Much like the Dixie Twats forgot who their audience was!

It will self correct in 3,2,1...

I hope your right, I recently have been enjoying country music but there does seem to be something going on? I heard on the radio that Carrie underwood and brad paisley went dirrectly to politics on the CMA mocking President Trump... dimmy kimmel was on the program as well... WTf? Then there is the Jos'e Jones show aka bobby bones which gets turned OFF as I tire of his rants about stains on the carpet and his safe zone ... Or what ever he calls it. Then there's keefy urban who's from Australia and admittedly gets songs played that are not of the country genere. Makes me think that there's a Harvey wein..... Or two lurking about in Nashville or that cnn is starting to produce some of the music.

I gave up on country music when Shania Twain hit the market. I realized that music is just another commercial product. A good looking chick with mediocre music becomes the top because every guy wants to be with her. Her music sucked IMHO. prior to MTV/CMT (aka visual music) you needed talent to earn money. Now just nice TnA or ripped abs and a super nice cowboy hat.

I’ll take Junior Brown over these ass clowns any day.

My thought is that like the NFL, they are underestimating their audiences. Generally these “stars” hang out in liberal echo chambers and as soon as they open their mouths to their fans a little too wide, they get what’s coming to them.
"Just so you know, we're on the good side with y'all," she told the audience at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. "We do not want this war, this violence, and we're ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas."Not extreme by any means and it ended their careers. The twat, Natalie, is STILL unapologetic.

The morphing of the country music "establishment" has been going on for years. As background, HH6 was literally "country when country wasn't cool" & remains so. I have followed it due to playing in bar bands in the old roadhouse days before DUI laws made trips out of town to party less appealing (actually I'm an instrumental-surf guy, said genre having a market that is measured to the right of the decimal point). C&W has always gone after a younger audience as the previous one matures (and buys fewer records). In the last decade or so, the lines between country & hip-hop/rap have blurred because of whose dollars they are after and because they are also after Grammys.

Along with this, part of their effort to compete nationally has been to produce awards shows that are as slick (in the nasty oily/greasy use of the term) as anything that comes out of the Please Love Me bubble out west. And Nashville's stars have pandered to that "cross-over" audience (their term, parroted by radio stations) because, like Cubs fans, country fans are all over the place and they want to tour there & sell seats, records, and merch. Again, this is nothing new - frankly, if someone breaks the mold & bucks the system they might have a bit tougher go of it. As example. this happened back when Dwight Yoakam came from the San Bernadino area, wrote great songs, put a small kick-ass band together, insisted on recording his songs with that band, and cleaned house for a bit. The establishment reps tied in to the industry told him "do you realize wtf you've done?!?!" - it was completely out of the blue to the fat-cats whose idea of lush production was to book studio time for a fucking string-orchestra to accompany their latest hot-dude/hottie that photographed well.

As I mentioned in another thread this "power couple" - who've sold their home in Franklin, TN (John Bell Hood is saying "good riddance" from his grave) and bought their own little island in the Bahamas - will fade a bit, save for future award shows where they can lip-sync their songs like Garth Brooks. But, sadly, I don't think it's going to self-correct in 3,2,1... they have a big 2018 tour coming up to promote their joint album. And Faith Hill has also made a career of recording various styles - amazingly coming back to one when the other peters out. Don't expect an end to concerts to "support our Armed Forces" because "after all...our freedoms."

Natalie Maines' comment to a British audience occurred when GWB was extremely popular & the country ("right or wrong") was going to war & had many of their sons & daughters downrange. They reaped what they sowed because of timing. Nashville elite will be applauded for the same reason because of who they're pandering to and because their audience can't tell the difference between Rascal Flats & some other cutesy pop groups with ankle-tight jeans (how the hell do they get those things on anyway?). And they will continue to read what's on the teleprompter at these shows, written for them by the awards-show consultants, whose background (and politics) is somewhere west of the San Andreas fault line.

Talent like his speaks for itself when the riff he does on 'highway patrol", then go remake the beach boys "409" and make both sound equally good.

Check out Bobby Flores's version of "lonely street" More of how it's supposed to be done....

Entertainers need to remember their job is to entertain their customers, not push political agendas.

Every entertainer who believes I care about their opinions or politics find themselves on my personal blacklist as soon as they stop entertaining me and start lecturing me.

Used to like Tim and Faith - no more. You two seemed to have forgotten your Louisiana and Mississippi roots.
