I think the usefulness of the "long shot" science has passed into the realm of a money game with super egos??

Hitting the edge of a 40 inch square at any distance has ZERO applicability..
Unless you're shooting a 155MM, then "close" is OK.. :D

Team of Americans Led by Former Navy SEAL Hits 5,000-Yard Shot for New Long-Range World Record

Well, a long-range shooting world record set by a team of Russians at Lobaev Arms didn’t hold up very long . . .

According to a post on Facebook, a team of Americans – led by former Navy SEAL Sniper Charlie Melton – had already reached out a little further than the Lobaev Arms team, and connected with a 40-inch steel target on a shot from 5,000 yards away.

Charlie Melton, who has an impeccable military resume, and is the owner of Charlie Mike Precision shooting school, knows a thing or two about long-range shooting. Among others, Melton reportedly worked with Brad Stair of Performance Guns to accomplish this impressive feat.

The shot amounted to roughly 2.84 miles, and the bullet was in the air for a little over 12 seconds!

Those that wish to shoot at extremely long ranges shoot at static targets. Humans are not considered static targets, they move. So unless someone can "predict" a humans movement over say 7-15 seconds long range shooting becomes less useful.

We've pushed accuracy, lets now push speed.

I'd be happier with a much faster round, lets double the speed of the round then work on longer ranges.

This is even funnier. Railguns for ships........ and how far are current navel engagements? Further than a railgun can fire. And that damn curve of the earth comes into play.

Give me a handheld railgun. ;)

37th shot:rolleyes:

Yawn...

If these guys and the Russians before are all that, then they should go compete at King of 2 Miles. Limited round. Limited time.

I can walk an 81 mm to 5000 yards with 37 attempts
