"She has lived in the U.S. for 20 years, what does she bring to the table? It was also announced today that 40% of Kalifornians do not speak english."

A woman living in Southern California has obtained United States citizenship even though she has no ability to read or write in any language, and does not know any English.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2017/10/23/southern-california-woman-obtains-us-citizenship-despite-no-ability-to-read-write-speak-english/

I thought this must be a mistake but I found an additional source.

Notwithstanding her limitations she may actually be more American in her heart and respect her oath more than members of Congress.

No big deal 20 years x 4 tries a year at the test = 80 x 2 =180 attempts total

(see below)

The Naturalization Test

To become a naturalized U.S. citizen, you must pass the naturalization test. At your naturalization interview, you will be required to answer questions about your application and background. You will also take an English and civics test unless you qualify for an exemption or waiver.

For more information, see USCIS Policy Manual English and Civics Testing Guidance.

Study Materials

USCIS offers a variety of study materials, including:
•Study Materials for the Civics Test
•Study Materials for the English Test

These and other citizenship resources for immigrants, educators, and organizations are available on the Citizenship Resource Center website.

Exceptions from English & Civics Requirements

For information on exceptions or modifications to the English and civics requirements for naturalization, visit our Exceptions & Accommodations page.

If You Don’t Pass

You will be given two opportunities to take the English and civics tests and to answer all questions relating to your naturalization application in English. If you fail any of the tests at your initial interview, you will be retested on the portion of the test that you failed (English or civics) between 60 and 90 days from the date of your initial interview. See 8 CFR 312.5(a) and 335.3(b).

I'm not mad at her in the least because it would be misplaced and wasted on her. She has gamed "our" system and won. Our government is the clown in this one.

1950's In South Philly, there were whole parishes filled with 1st generation Italians Immigrants, whose parents did not speak the English language and never sought to learn, but their children did and so has every generation since. Maybe a quick read of Urie Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory of human development, would stay the negativity as most 1st generation immigrants experience is limited to those social interaction which put bread on the table, its really the following generation that assimilate and embrace the culture their parents migrated to.

Didn't read anywhere that she wasn't a legal resident up to that time (might've missed it). The existing laws make allowances for people in her situation; good for her & her kids to go after it. How many look at a tax deduction that is in the US internal revenue code and say, "nah, I won't take that 'cause I theoretically disagree with it"? Thought so.

Now about those next 700,000 illegals that the quislings in WashedupDC are going to reinforce amnesty for...

You hit the nail on the head, it's not her it's the govt. I just find the concept of becoming an American citizen without being able to communicate in english, foreign.

Every district that voted for Obummer and Felonia Von Pantsuit can go.
Every district that voted for Jerry Brown and other like him can go.

She came here legally and went through the system and got her citizenship. I honestly don't see the problem. She raised her family and as an example to her kids and others overcame barriers and got her citizenship using the proper channels and laws. I know that is not a popular position here but this shows there is no excuse for the illegal immigrants that come here. If she can do it legally anyone else can as well.

I don't blame her it is the system that is broken....how do we explain someone passing a test without the ability to read or write english....just like coyote nets they find the corrupt DMV to purchase a photo ID from

Our military academies are graduating anti-American communist sympathizers to lead our soldiers, so why shouldn't this woman get citizenship?

Hell, I'd say she might be more American at heart than that lieutenant rap0ne guy from the us army academy at western front

Bottom line, how sad for her.

When I moved to the Southern Blue Ridge of the Appalachian Mountains I needed to assimilate, learn some new vocabulary, and be patient for many years until the locals realized they could trust me...only then did I start to participate more fully in that culture. Many rewarding experiences,, insights and rewards came from that making my world much larger.

Again, like many here when I lived overseas it was the same thing the world opens up when you participate into the culture you live in...
