Greetings----I'm an active duty SF Major currently attending the Army's School of Advanced Military Studies at Fort Leavenworth. Before that, I served with 1st Group as commander of ODA 182 (best job in the Army), assistant S3, and HSC commander.
I was thrilled when I found this site----finally, a professional forum for SF soldiers! I look forward to reading more and also contributing in the future. As a relatively new field grade soon to return to Group as a company commander, I would appreciate any thoughts/sage advice on commanding SF soldiers at that level----input from team sergeants/SGM's would be especially helpful.

De Oppresso Liber, brothers.

A Jedi Warrior!! Say howdy to Dr. Robertson in CSI for us.

Welcome, brother, even though you are one of the 1st Group heathen. How do you get a Company Command after SAMS?

Some of us here have had SF Companies before. Second best job in the Army for an officer.

Take care.

1st Group heathen? You must be from 5th Group. Well, someone has to stand watch on all the bars in Bangkok while you guys play ninja in the sandbox. Actually, I hear we're finally getting our teams into the fight now---it's about time. I'm hoping I get my chance as well once I get back to Lewis. Speaking of which, my Jedi status has bought me a year on Group staff as the GWOT planner before I get an ODB. Ah well, sometimes the bear eats you....

Cheers, JEH

'Fraid not.

Be careful you don't get stuck doing your BQ job in an XO or S-3 slot.

Those are more career enhancing, but are somewhat further down the list of great jobs for 18As.

Damn all that name calling about the diffirent Groups. I was in the 3d Gp, 7th Gp,5th Gp/SOG, 1st Gp and SWS. What does this classify me as? Then again I never could hold a job very long.

BMT and QRQ 30 both display their ability to adapt and assimilate to new conditions by continually transferring from Group to Group. One would think that after being in all those different units they would probably as well trained as Rambo.

Terry, I did notice a slight resemblance to Sly when he ignited the powder in his side wound in Rambo III. I think it was the scream. LOL

I'm not trying to hijack Blueboy's day but some of you "younger" whiper snappers may not realize that in the "Good old days" rotation every three years or so was the Army way. Individuals rotated rather than units. Towards the end of the Vietnam war it was changed as part of the VOLAR program. It is felt, and probably rightly so, that stability of assignment will attract more prospective career soldiers. Ironically, Special Forces always had the advantage over other units -- the fact you would always return to Ft. Bragg and could therefore invest in a home. Now y'all are all over the place but at least y'all still have the stability of serving in one or two groups for life.

That is why we ancients can claim so many homes.

Now -- let me light this black powder in my side -- Yeeeeeeow!! :lifter
