You know, maybe it was naive of me to think this, but I really thought most people had learned to separate the soldiers from the policies they are ordered to carry out. Even at UGA (my school), which is a pretty liberal student body outside of the Greek system, the war criticism is based more upon "this is a tragedy that our brave soldiers are dying for a mistake", ect..
Do you active duty guys still run into this very often? And for all of you SE Asia Vets, was it really as widespread as it the history books make it out to be as far as people blaming you for the war?

It's the left coast...

I think this is also unsupportive, IMHO it does defile the sacrifices made by those who gave their lives. No one wants any of our Military to die, but to call it a mistake?

Yes Gypsy, you are right! Look at who this State supported for POTUS! The Seattle area in particular, has always been on the liberal side. As a LE during the war in Vietnam, I had my fill of rioting liberal students, etc. (I was the LE Sgt. running the departments riot platoon during this era.) Note: We did get to thump a few heads on the Freeway! :D

As for "Mistake." that seems to be the Liberal (democratic ?) line now.

Not only that, look at the recount/recount/recount for the state's election. The libs recounted until their candidate "won". My brother lives in Seattle...I don't know how he stands it. Oh wait...he's one of them. Arghhhhh! Family time is always interesting. LOL.

I saw an interesting shouting match yesterday downtown seattle.

People on one side of street with "Revote Now. Rossi" signs, and "Your answer was rejected on Nov 2 2004. Get Over It" signs.

People on the other side with "Got Democracy?" signs etc.

Police on foot nearby. The groups were just staying on their corners, shouting at each other.

Gypsy, the recounts were performed based on the small margin of victory. 2.9 million votes. Rossi won the original count by 261 votes. The state election rules say victory <1000 is automatic machine recount. Rossi's lead shrinks to 42. Again, state election rules say victory <100 is automatic hand recount.

If you want to blame the dems for something, its not "recount recount recount". Its more like the fact that the courts decided to include 732 MISTAKENLY rejected ballots in the recount.

How do we know that they were "MISTAKENLY rejected"?

I heard that they were "newly FOUND" ballots.

They were found uncounted (in an as of yet uncertified county). When they were found, i believe that they were gone over and counted by hand (by more than one person) but I could be wrong about that.

Point taken pulque but there sure are a lot of mysteries surrounding this vote. I read a couple of articles recently that I cannot seem to locate...but that said I find it interesting that they would certify election results when 24 out of 39 counties (or so I read) did not provide the required info for certification. And some counties did not provide the total number of active registered voters in all precincts or the total votes cast.

Oh just for fun...I am able to distinguish the difference between libs and Dems. :D

An interesting article

Thanks Gypsy. I had not heard that. I am trying to follow this one, so I will try and find out more.

heh. BTW, the guy who runs the elections here, the Sec State, is a Republican. Also, I should say, I mispoke about the automatic hand recount for margin<100. The Dems had to pay for the hand recount.

Here is an additional interesting speculation: The governor elect, Christine Gregoire, won the hand recount by 8 votes before the State Supreme court decided to allow the count of the newly discovered mistakenly rejected ballots.

Wrong. King County "Found" those ballots after the 2nd count. They were not "mistakenly rejected" either. They were rejected because they were brought in after the certification. There is also a question as to whether or not they were cast by registered voters. This from a county that failed to send out absentee ballots until the exact legal deadline... 30 days before the election. We wouldn't want those guys in Iraq to get their ballots on time now would we? They might vote for Bush and Rossi!

And of course, we can include ballots that we "found" weeks after the election, but absentee ballots from troops are right out.

They were NEVER machine counted. They were initially counted by hand, not by the King County Elections Commissioners office, but by the King County "Democratic Central Committee" (not a good choice of names btw). I wonder what would have happened if the State GOP had suddenly shown up with 573 ballots that had been "found".

It's irrelevant anyway. Gregoire is the Governor as far as I'm concerned, at least until the State Supreme Court decides to keep her of remove her (I'm not sure if that is a legal remedy in this state). The good news is that this debacle has put Rossi in a position where he has a chance of beating Maria "Spyware Tycoon" Cantwell in the mid-term Senate race. The other good thing is that now I get to point out the blatant hypocrisy of the local liberal crowd who can no longer complain about "what the GOP did in Florida".

I said it before, and I'll say it again. This state elected / reelected Democrats in almost every State/Federal race by margins of 5-30%... we're talking hands down victories in 7 out of 9 federal seats and lord only knows how many state seats. It's clear that the people of this state wanted a democrat to be Governor, just not Gregoire.

Thanks B 1-3, that was the other thing that royally pissed me off about that election which I neglected to include in my original post.

The complications of this election aside, its not right to deprive soldiers their vote.

I just don't enjoy being lumped in with California. Even I wouldn't choose to live there.

Thousands of military absentee votes were the subject of invalidation efforts by Democratic lawyers in Florida in 2000.

None of the objections I am aware of were based on substantive issues, but centered on technicalities.

This shows just how lame the liberal anti Bush mentality really is. You will notice the paper mache' statue of President Bush being pulled over is very similar to a statue of Saddam that the people of Iraq destroyed shortly after they were liberated by our troops. (See below Picture.) See the liberals don't even have a sense of imagination! They have to make a lame attempt copy someone else's work and mimic someone else's actions. How original are they for that. I guess was asking to much that they at least create their own design to represent president Bush. More important than this sad display of their ignorance and lack of imagination is the following.
none of these people really have any appreciation of the system and how it works. None of them appreciate that they had a voice in this election. Unfortunately for them they and their agenda lost and the majority spoke out and overruled them. I guess this is classic poor loser reaction for childish mentality.

If President Bush was the evil they claim he is and comparable to Saddam those involved in this little event would be summarily executed as would members of their families.

If President Bush was so evil many of those observing would be executed or imprisoned Tortured and probably maimed for the rest of their short lives. That would also include family members they might have.

Those protesting in DC during the inauguration today would have been hauled off and less than humane things would have happened to them. Then their immediate families would also be paying the price.

Many would have their tongues removed for simply speaking out against their President.

Isn't it great we can live in a country where total idiots can make complete fools of themselves and mock and abuse the very freedoms so many around the world can only dream about. They abuse Freedom and Liberty that has been protected and defended by others so they can abuse it.

Many of these groups are of the ilk of MoveOn.Org and other Socialist sponsored ideologies. Many participants have not got a clue as to what they are representing or taking part in when they get involved in such activity. Even the hard core refuse to accept the concept of socialism is a failed agenda and cause. Its proven so all over the world. Not one country that has ascribed to socialism is better because of it. It might sound nice in concept but the reality is far different.

If the liberal socialist agenda were to ever succeed the freedom many of them now have to create havoc and make such stupid scenes in public protest would never be allowed to happen. Because the government they want to give so much power and control to would outlaw such activity and make it criminal. Simply speaking out against a socialist controlled government means prison or worse. But these people think they have the answers and respond to the feel good mentality and sales pitch of everything opposed to freedom and liberty. These are people who despite their fine high mighty thoughts would be willing to give up the freedom and Liberty they now take for granted and abuse for government control over their and our lives. They have not got a clue how their own agenda is opposed to the very issues they claim to want to protect. They are ignorant beyond belief if they think a socialist controlled government would be good for this country. It is diametrically opposed to what this country is about and what freedom loving people around the world cherish.

These are the people that preach tolerance but only tolerance for their specific agenda.
These are people that speak of freedom and loss of freedom yet they are there protesting and causing problems and abusing those very freedoms.
These are people speaking of freedom and liberty but want to take your guns away.
These are people speaking of freedom but do not want to hear an opposing views.
These are people speaking of freedom but want to give their lives and yours to the control and whim of the government.
These are people who say they support the troops but not the war. B.S. they can't have it both ways. those claims by these people are lies to cover their real thoughts.
These are people speaking of freedom who want the government and your tax money to pay for their lifestyle.
These are people who talk of seeking a better and brighter future but want to tear down the very fabric of freedom that allows for such progress.
These are people who talk of liberty but are not willing to defend or protect it.
These are people whom the very idea and concept of GOD intimidates them and causes great fear.
These are people whom only want the freedom that allows them to do as they wish and disregard everyone else.
These are people who cringe at the idea and concept of personal responsibility.
These are people who attack their country for every ill the world knows conveniently forgetting that the United States of America is the most generous country in the world and helps more people than can be imagined. We as a country do this as a regular way of life not just for select significant events.
These people cry about the poor in this country but do not appreciate the fact that the poor in this country live better than many third worlds leaders.
These are people who speak of oppression yet have no clue what real oppression is really about.
These are people who speak of government conspiracy and government oppression yet they create it with constant cries for more government involvement and handouts. They do not grasp the idea that the more power you give government the less power you have as a citizen.
They speak of redistribution of the wealth. The rich don't deserve what they worked hard to earn. I suppose they think they should benefit by sitting on their dead asses and taking from someone else's hard labor. The dream is alive and people in this country can go from rags to riches if they apply themselves. Its happens often. But these people prefer to just steal form others hard labor through the use of government taxes and handouts.

Are there problems? Of course there are. Nothing is perfect, not even our country is perfect but at least we make the effort. We try and we learn from mistakes and try to move forward. Many like today's protesters prefer to be grounded in the past and fear moving forward as their preference leans towards doom and gloom attitudes
We represent so much to so many people around the world and are indeed a gleaming light of hope for so many. Can we answer and respond to every problem in the world, obviously not, but we do the best we can when we can.
Maybe if these so called liberal protesters with their, oh so cool "we showed them" attitude has a taste of what the real world was about and what true oppression was really about maybe they would rethink their position. They do not have a clue to the fact that many problems in this country are due to their own actions and demands. But we will not go there and hurt their fragile feelings.

On this the inauguration day of our newest president I applaud him and look forward to the ambitious agenda he has laid out for this country and our future.

GOD BLESS AMERICA
GOD BLESS and WATCH OVER OUR TROOPS
GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU
