With a bon vivant philosophy, urbane sophistication, and sheer marketing brilliance, Hefner was an icon for the sexual revolution of the 1960s, the man-about-town embodiment of the lifestyle he promoted with gusto and a sly wink to readers.

According to his bio he enlisted in the US Army in 1944 and honorably served for two years. I appreciate his service to our country and admit to having stashed one of his publications under my mattress during my formative years.

As a teen I used to house sit for a gentleman who lived across the street that had every single issue from 1st on through. I would spend a little extra time at the house to peruse the old issues when letting out the pets.

Those jihadis wanting their 72 virgins better hurry!

Liquor, tobacco and rousing life style full of women half or a quarter your age....and he only lived to be 91! So much for all things in moderation. :)

Probably half of men over 40 have looked at..err I mean read the articles in Playboy. The other half is lying. :D

When I was at Ft. Huachuca in 1970, one of the other instructors there told us that his sister would be the June '70 Playmate. Of course, we thought he was full of crap. When the issue came out he showed it to us and while she had the same last name it was a pretty common name. in the fall he and a couple of us went to LA to go to the beach, Disneyland, etc. Well, we stayed at his mother's place in Burbank. LSS: It was his sister and his mother was even HOTTER!

The pic below should pass as safe for the workplace nowadays. ;)

Hefner will be buried in a plot next to Playboy's very first cover star, Marilyn Monroe. He paid $75K for the plot in 1992.

Hefner discussed the purchase in an interview, back in 2000. “Jay Leno suggested that if I was going to spend that kind of money, I should actually be on top of her,” Hefner joked.

Not bad, Hugh. Eternity next to Marilyn. :p
