Michael Moore's Bodyguard Arrested on Airport Gun Charge
Thursday, January 20, 2005

NEW YORK — Filmmaker Michael Moore's (search) bodyguard was arrested for carrying an unlicensed weapon in New York's JFK airport Wednesday night.

Police took Patrick Burke, who says Moore employs him, into custody after he declared he was carrying a firearm at a ticket counter. Burke is licensed to carry a firearm in Florida and California, but not in New York. Burke was taken to Queens central booking and could potentially be charged with a felony for the incident.

Moore's 2003 Oscar-winning film "Bowling for Columbine" criticizes what Moore calls America's "culture of fear" and its obsession with guns.

IF TRUE: I just want to see how Moore responds to questions "Why does he employ armed personnel". More intel needed,... if it gets picked up

Good post.

Old Michael Moore joins the list of anti-gun celebs who employ those to pack for them.

Moore's Makeover
By MELENA Z. RYZIK

Yes, that was Michael Moore, not some sleekly coiffed and styled film executive, at the People's Choice Awards last Sunday (and at several other awards shows since). The notoriously scruffy Mr. Moore ditched his trademark baseball cap and sweats in favor of a tailored suit and silver tie. The biggest change, though, was above the neck: vaguely spiky hair and, in place of his usual salt-and-pepper, stuck-in-a-cabin-without-a-razor mustache and beard, a neatly trimmed (and uniformly colored) goatee.

Laurent D., owner of Privé Salons in New York and Beverly Hills, was behind the changes. His client list includes Gwyneth Paltrow and Johnny Depp; Mr. Moore was "a great challenge," he said. The reason for the makeover? Mr. Moore would not comment, but Mr. D. reported: "He doesn't want to look Hollywood, but he wants to look more polished."

A day before the ceremony, Mr. D. (born in France as Laurent DuFourg) went to Mr. Moore's hotel, grudgingly bringing a colorist at the request of Mr. Moore's staff. "I was not very excited about doing the color, because I don't see Michael with highlights and lowlights," he said. "He's not that kind of guy." They had a long conversation about the hair - he was reluctant to go short, Mr. D. said, because of a bad experience with a pre-"Tonight Show" haircut - and a longer talk about the beard. Mr. Moore consulted family (one sister was pro-beard removal, one against) and eventually consented to the spiky 'do; the goatee (dyed to match the hair, which was not colored) was a compromise.

The biggest challenge with any new look is upkeep. Mr. Moore was surprised to learn that his new hairstyle did not require any products (although Mr. D did school him in the wonders of hair wax), but he will have to get haircuts more frequently. "You know, even if he wears the baseball hat, it's going to look good," Mr. D. said.

I can see a conspiracy charge here if Mr. Moore, aka Fat Bastard, knew of his bodyguard packing and abetted him with his crime, though I am sure AL has much better insight into this incident.

I guess ole' Patrick forgot about the Sullivan Law in NYC. Hipocracy knows no bounds with Jabba the Hut...aka Herr Moore. I don't think the conspiracy applies Sir. Fat Bastard can just claim stupidity (why is that easy to envision) and he is not responsible for Herr Burke's security constraints regardless if he is in Jabba's employ. Of course one of our esteemed holders of a doctorate in Jurisprudence will be along soon to spank my theory. :D

I just remembered that it was Rosy O'Donnell that ambushed Tom Seleck on her tv show about his support of the right to keep and bear arms. I think Tom got up and walked off or at the least wasn't very happy. Anyone remember that?

Rosy at the time was paying an armed bodyguard to escort her adopted children to school.

the guy works for Gavin DeBecker's firm. http://www.gavindebecker.com/

He had protected fat-boy in the past but there is no info that he was on MM's detail at the time for the arrest.

although it makes a better visual if MM's limo dropped him at the airport with the gun.

www.moorewatch.com , Look at the column on the right side of the page.

Turns out that this story isn't what it appears to be. Moore has used armed guards in the past.

Thanks! That's all coming back now. That K-Mart thing was sure an inconvenient detail for Rosy...

I had a lot of fun with that whole K-Mart thing. Rosey tells Tom Selleck that he should give back the money he made for the NRA ads... a group whose activities he supports.

She on the other hand thinks she shouldn't have to give back the K-Mart money: paid to her by a cause she is against.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see a problem here?
