Any leadership under the the association of any sort of veteran status should have "Combat" as well as "Amputee" on their DD214 or Med Board status.

This would fix a whole train load of shit.

Requirements for membership in the American Legion are pretty much "Do you have a NDSM?" I've been a member for 38 years.

I meet the minimum standards for membership in the VFW but don't join for my own reasons.

Life member of the SFA.

Are you a member of a service organization?

I am not. But I am troubled by leadership that is consistently selected by the VA.
I should probably have clarified my position and posted befor my 4th Jameson and water.

I am a veteran.

Just finished #5

Yes, sir. Member of American Legion, DAV, VFW, Sub Vets, etc, but I'm only active in the Legion post because they're closer. DAV Chapter is great but I have to drive 40 miles to attend a meeting.

Just my experience, but veteran organizations seem to be very post-dependent, meaning some posts are active with a lot going on and others are barely drawing breath. Some are more fraternal and some are more service oriented. Some (actually few) have younger vets, while others (many) have those of us with gray beards. Leadership at the post or chapter level is critical. Leadership is critical everywhere.

As for women in leadership roles, I don't give a shit. If a woman can serve the needs of the vet then she has my vote. If she's there just because the elephants want to kiss some ass then that's BS.
