Kind of amazing how all these attacks on Free Speech have snowballed after Charlottesville. Makes me wonder if it was a perfect storm or thoughtfully planned.
Won't be long before people begin receiving phone calls or notices via email putting them on notice for their behavior online...
If the SPLC and ADL, with their (growing) list of "hate groups" is going to be the arbiter for approved online speech, we have reached a very scary place in this country. It will be the end of the Internet as we know it and America will be no better than totalitarian China and N. Korea.

I've had a few freinds comment on social media that white nationalists, neo-nazis, etc, should not be allowed to gather and demonstrate.
I told these people (who are all also very anti-Trump) that if they truly held that sentiment that they should publicly state that they want the current administration to determine which groups were allowed to gather and demonstrate but if they are uncomfortable with making that statement their understanding of why constitutional rights are in place are completely lacking. They have gotten a bit quieter since then...
A bit off topic with this, but I believe in the same vein of thought.
I suggested to a anti-Trump/Trust baby that removal of the Confederate Statues would be best resolved by a public vote of the local constituency rather than a small cabal of local agenda driven bureaucrats/politicians.
I never did get a response to the idea of a public vote, but I did get an endless stream of SPLC and WaPo talking points trying to shape the narrative.

It's all a front under the guise of a non-profit. What WWP really supports is an end to the existing form of government.

Except for the voices in my head, maybe it's time to curtail 'free speech' and put limits on what can and cannot be said in public.
Civility has its limits- hateful/harmful or vulgar speech is still hateful/harmful and vulgar speech even if you agree with it.
Most all college and university campuses must have decorum rules and many if not all parks and recreation services, and city ordinances have by-laws preventing language, display, and organized groups that threaten the peaceful assembly by all.
Ask them to leave once then arrest and charge with trespass or disturbing the peace. Students and faculty should be expelled and PNG'd from campuses for violating the rules.

I'm not an African continent expert but, I'd bet anyone not earning a living wage and being forced to perform manual labor or services in Africa probably think they are still in servitude to their masters.

They do not care about any specific cause 'du jour' - only what it gains them at the moment. They will move on and find another rallying cry over some societal slight (or create one of their own). Their only criteria is that it diminishes the obstacles in their way, to wit, traditional western culture (diminishing) that recognizes them for what they are but - for the sake of decency - has yet to go kinetic. They will not stop. Period.

No doubt. Nevertheless, many Charlottesville locals are upset and suspicious about how the city handled the rally in a way that seemed to have an agenda.
BTW, I don't think taking offense of American history has anything more to do with racial equality than the ACA did with healthcare. I believe it's partisanship fueled by emotionally charged ideology, in other words a quest for power. Someone figured out that in a democratic republic, popular influence is how power is achieved regardless of the merits of the argument.
