"...Sources said MAVNI’s problems included a vetting backlog that led to enrollment of many soldiers prior to completion of their background checks, and an attendant “drift” in the program’s criteria, with MAVNI being used as a vehicle for the hiring of workers – like cooks, drivers and mechanics – who did not possess the specialized skills the program was created to exploit..."

So much stupidity and ineptness during the Obummer administration it's hard to keep track of it all.

"Stupidity and ineptness" is suspect of course, because it could have been deliberate on the part of Obummer and his like minded DOD cronies to allow foreign agents to infiltrate the military.
The MANVI program service members filing suit against Mattis should result in their immediate dismissal from the military.

I can see both sides of it. It needs the right oversight to be effective. Oversight we are not always so good at.

I have seen well needed MI folks not able to use their TS/SCI because they have a canadian or british parent. Or a US born soldier goes to South Korea and marries a South Korean woman, then suddenly they cant work, until their spouse becomes a US person.

Meanwhile, Chinese, Russian, whatever, goes into work with TS/SCI info on that country, with no question. Surprise, some of them do turn out to be legit spies.

But, true cultural understanding and the obscure parts of language only can come from a native.

Hard situation. Depends on how we manage it.

This.

We've also managed it poorly, and there are plenty discussions here already on the poor cost -benefit ratio.
