I just found out I passed National Registry for EMT-Intermediate. I have been working on it for 9 months now and it has culminated with this testing.
I also start new employment with the local Fire Dept and will be in the Fire Academy for 4 months. I will try and check in as often as I can.
Thanks for all the knowledge and the friendship.
Respectfully,
JJ
Congrats J, the more the better-
Congrats and all the best J, about time!

Thanks alot ladies and gents. I appreciate the well wishes. Next 25m target is finishing rookie school.
I will try and get online at night while I am in the academy. I will be bringing my digital camera along with me to try and document as much of the school as I can. I will post what pictures I have.

Not sure who that Johnny Gage person is ...but I will take it as a compliment. ;)
Ahh I found it ....it is from Emergency the TV show....hmm must be from before my time.
:lifter ;)
Well done mate. NZFS just passed out their latest batch a couple of weeks ago. They very rarely recruit, let alone run the course.

It was a compliment, many of the folks in this forum hail before the advent of fire much less organized fire departments.
Congratulations.

Hey, Crip:
I think that was DeSoto in your pic.
The earlier one of Gage is correct.
Get down....

Yes it was DeSoto, however JJ more closely resembles Gage and thus the reason for the pic Sir.

Yes it was DeSoto, however JJ more closely resembles Gage and thus the reson for the pic Sir.
Thus, he said "JJ," not "JG."
I missed the distinction too, TR. So, Crip, are you suggesting that you don't have to drop now? :munchin

Not suggesting a thing, counselor, simply attempting to resolve what I believe to be a misunderstanding of my initial point.
I have no issue whatsoever with dropping, however I would only be able to perform one-armed push-ups. ;)

This is true. I think Adam-12 was on right before or after.
At that age, though, I believe my favorite show was SWAT. Either that or Baa Baa Black Sheep/Black Sheep Squadron. I wanted to be Pappy Boyington.

Day 3 of week 3 out of 16 weeks of recruit school and I am still putting one foot in front of the other one. Well one hand and knee in front of the other one. We crawl everywhere it seems like. When we aren’t running we are crawling over and under and through barrels that don’t look like any human can fit through much less someone wearing full turnout gear and air pack. By the way...dry the turn out gear weighs about 50 lbs with air pack. Wet....it weighs about 75-80 maybe even 90 lbs. Needless to say..I don’t like having wet turnout gear. :lifter
Today’s activities included PT this am from 7am-9am led by what some would call a sadist...psychotic PT instructor. We ran 3.5 maybe 4 miles in the rain and it was about 35 degrees outside. Once we got back we changed into drill gear and then commenced to gear acclimation drills, other wise known as Dead Man Walking(we walk all over the academy and through the woods...not to grandmas house, that is for sure) and then we did maze drills and then stair drills and then went to the Pit. The Pit is an obstacle course setup to get you used to crawling with all of your gear on and going through obstacles such as a simulated stud wall which by the way you can squeeze a 215 lb person through wearing full turnout gear;). Then a rubble pile bear walk. Next we have to navigate a simulated attic environment with missing plywood and open rafters and the like. Then the barrels ooohhh lord the barrels...these will test ever muscle you have ...that is already screaming and burning by the way...you have squeeze yourself through a plastic 55 gallon drum. Once through the barrels there is several other little devices designed to get you wet and muddy and really just generally smoke your bag and then when you think you are on the home stretch you have to navigate the attic simulator and the rubble pile all over again (bear walk, with out your knees touching) and then back through the wall simulator and then you finish, soaking wet, physically smoked and just generally not in a good mood. After lunch we did some more drills and then started working on our bank of pushups/PT ...ohh I forgot to tell you about the Bank ....if we get hit on anything such as turnout gear not put on properly or drills not done correctly on the pit ...we get "Bank" added. So this after noon after the physical destruction that occurred on dead man walking and the pit and from the mornings PT session we did some more PT....to work down the bank. We had 360 in the bank so it took us about an hour and half and several gallons of sweat later we had it worked off.
I am about to go eat and then study and will be getting in bed at the same time my kids do.....I am not 18 any more and doing this at 31 has been a real eye opener as to what piss poor physical shape I was in. I am getting better each day and getting stronger. I had a rough day today and had to call a friend for some motivation thanks JD you helped me out brother.
Sorry for the long post but I wanted to let y'all know how I was doing.
Very Respectfully,
Firefighter Recruit JJ
Nice recap JJ...good on ya! We're proud of you.

Bro,
First off let me say that if you ever need anything let me know.
Recruit school is never really a joke, in a good dept anyway. Your job is about 2 things in this order: saving lives and saving property. To do this you must be in the best shape possible. To get into the shape you should be in to do the job you are going to be asked to do you must be put thru the ringer so to speak. Take it one day at a time. I promise you it will be worth it.
Years from now you will look back on this time and think, "wow, I cant believe I thought it was hard." Wait until you try out for a slot on a RIT. Then the fun begins. Trust me. If the teams where you guys are are anything like my teams they are hard as wood pecker lips.
Seriously though, anytime you need something whether it be advice or just a few words give me a call. If I find out you did not...
Crip
Good on you JJ !!!
Thanks for the insite on Fire School.
I just started my EMT-B class last week (I need to re-regester), had our first exam last night, (smoked it...scored a 98 out of 99), then test in June for a dept here in Montana. I test with them in April to get on their volunteer program.
Looks like I'll have some fun if (when) I make it. I'm 38. Will be 39 if (when) I get in the next class.
Post when you can. It only inspires me MORE !!!! :lifter
