GERMAN OFFICIAL WANTS $53M FINES FOR SOCIAL MEDIA HATE POSTS

BERLIN (AP) -- Germany's justice minister is proposing fines of up to 50 million euros ($53 million) for social networking sites that fail to swiftly remove illegal content, such as hate speech or defamatory "fake news."
The plan announced Tuesday marks a further step in Germany's attempt to impose its strict domestic laws against incitement on the free-wheeling world of online chatter.
Justice Minister Heiko Maas, a member of the center-left Social Democratic Party, said social media companies had already taken voluntary steps to crack down on hate crimes that have resulted in improvements.
"This isn't sufficient yet," Maas said, citing research that he said showed Twitter deletes just 1 percent of illegal content flagged by users, while Facebook deletes 39 percent.

Why are you surprised. They have no tradition of freedom of speech. The UK has the official secrets act that says STFU or go to prison because the government says so. We broke away from Europe for a reason.
Oh, well aware....Canada has no freedom of speech either...I just like to be amazed :)

Its not like the left here have not thought about doing the same thing. The AG was talking about prosecuting Climate Change deniers here in the U.S a year ago.

I just use sign language. Its constitutionally protected.

How do you do that while driving....LOL!....do you think you could teach me the sign for "@##$!!!%%%$$##$Y"....I always have this idiot Prius driver (and yes, with a Coexist Sticker on the bumper) that pulls out in front of me in the morning going 10 mph.....:p

I know a fairly universal 1-fingered response that gets the job done consistently.
There are several other one-handed gestures one can use to similar effect.

Ha, I rarely use the 1-fingered approach, I usually give them the Peace Sign...they seem rather confused by that...:o

I was at a stop light behind a car in which the driver and her passenger were having a heated argument . . . in sign language! I learned that you can't "speak" while you're hitting someone. :D

Someone needs to get the Reichs Minister for Justice a vintage mirror. While I get that they still have little conception of what truly free speech means, I smell the continuing hand of the DDR Wench at the helm in her little game with the muzzies she attempts to cozy up to - juggling that EU genuflection with "oh, yeah, they also mentioned I'm a head of state; this working 2 jobs is really tough."
Trying to fine the low-hanging (and $eriou$ly juicy) fruit of the major social media sites is losing their grip on what "their" people think or have access to as far as information sources.
Sorry Frau Merkel; there is either hate-speech, or there is no free speech.
