Suspect in custody....

Waiting for what has become the inevitable statement on motivation.......

Multiple people dead after shooting at Florida's Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airport

Multiple people were killed in a shooting in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida on Friday afternoon, the Broward Sheriff's office confirmed on Twitter.

The suspected shooter has been taken into custody. Police do not believe there was more than one shooter.

NBC and CBS have reported, citing federal officials, that three people were killed and at least nine wounded in the attack, but Fort Lauderdale police have not yet confirmed the number of casualties.

The airport tweeted that all services at the airport have temporarily been suspended.

"Communications received a call around 12:55 p.m. about shots fired at 100 Terminal Drive at Fort Lauderdale -Hollywood Int'l Airport," the Broward Sheriff's office tweeted.

Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer was at the airport when the shooting occurred.

I'm listening to Broward County Law Enforcement on a scanner, a male came on a minute ago and cleared all but 2 units in division? 4 and 5? to go to the airport. It sounds like there's a second shooter terminal 4, lower level.

If this is true, he just screwed everyone's ability to check weapons on a flight:

Broward County Commissioner Chip LaMarca wrote on Facebook that Santiago landed at the airport aboard a flight from Canada. Santiago checked a handgun in his luggage and retrieved it at the Terminal 2 baggage claim, LaMaca wrote, adding that he loaded the gun in a bathroom then came out and opened fire. NBC News, citing law enforcement officials, confirmed LaMarca's story.

Air Canada says they have no record of a passenger named Esteban Santiago, checked firearms, on any flights to Ft Lauderdale.

Some are claiming ISIS was using that name in a chat prior to the identity being released by the media.

In Nov. 2016, Santiago-Ruiz walked into an FBI office in Anchorage and claimed he was being forced to fight for ISIS, law enforcement sources told CBS News. He was sent to a psychiatric hospital after police were called, sources said.
He was also investigated as part of a child porn investigation in either 2011 or 2012, law enforcement sources told CBS News. Three weapons and a computer were seized, but no charges were filed, sources said.

Just picked this up from Allen West site.

You can sure find out about someone very fast these days..

This gist is CNN is "white" washing the story.

Looks like Esteban just might have a small scar in the middle of his forehead??

The side info is very interesting.

WHOA: Anyone else notice what CNN did to Ft Lauderdale shooter’s photo?
By Matt Palumbo 6:07pm January 6, 2017

Move over George Zimmerman, there’s a new “white Hispanic” on the block.

Such became the case earlier today when CNN identified the lone gunman who carried out today’s airport attack in Fort Lauderdale, killing five and wounding eight. The shooter was 26-year-old Esteban Santiago, who CNN identified as the man pictured below.

see pic 1

Meanwhile, had you turned on CNN, this is the photo you would’ve seen:

see pic 2

They were hardly the only ones whitewashing the shooter.

Separately, one source seems to think this could’ve been an act of Islamic terrorism — although to be fair the chap in these photos looks quite a bit younger.

My guess is this guy is Batshit crazy! And someone before today should have taken his guns away recently even if only temporarily. (See below comment)

The only person(s) this guys actions will hurt (beyond those he killed/injured today) are service members who claim PTSD and have ever told someone they own guns.

Yet again, the FBI fails see a potential threat and let's one get away. (A self referral for mental illness, recent discharge from military for poor performance, mysterious ties to ISIS recruiting, I'm sure there are black helicopters and men in suits wearing dark glasses following him...) As soon as he bought a plane ticket a red flag should have popped up on the FBIs computer. (Anyone see a pattern here between this guy and the two recent one year wonders that spent a deployment in Iraq and then were later discharged under less than honorable conditions and went on to ambush (murder) cops (Dallas/Louisiana). A few simple phone calls (Provost Marshal) would have determined or confirmed he had guns and when he bought the plane ticket agents could have found out he checked the weapon and said no, not today, not for you.

Now it's not illegal or improper for a citizen to fly with guns and ammo when properly secured and checked and nothing should change or be done differently in the future but, when you are investigated by the FBI as recently as two months ago and taken in for a mental evaluation because you are batshit crazy...maybe it's not in the best interests of anyone to allow that person to possess a gun(s) let alone travel into or through restricted areas. There is always FedEx when in doubt.

He may not have gotten on that flight from Anchorage through Minneapolis to Fort Lauderdale with the intent to kill anyone but, by the time he got his gun he was ready to kill everyone. Maybe he had an inflight altercation that didn't rise to the level of police intervention upon landing but he felt slighted and sought revenge.

The good news is this psychopath is still alive and the doctors can unlock his mind for all to see.

Godspeed to the fallen and prayers to the injured and inconvenienced. What a shitshow today for thousands of people who probably didn't even know anything had happened only a short distance away.

There has to be a better way because this "abundance of caution" method only resulted in scaring thousands, costing hundreds of millions and disrupting everything downstream from Fort Lauderdale...what a cluster F...

Crazy, mentally ill, nefarious intent or gone full retard (self-radicalized jihad) I think the cover up is already in. The FBI will never admit to messing up again. The list of "investigated by the FBI and case closed" is getting too big to post.

This guy was breathing time bomb who kept being released and put back out on the streets.

Check out this article from USA TODAY:

Anchorage police investigated Fla. airport shooting suspect

http://usat.ly/2i5otUQ

He fits a profile of so many recently that have gone on to killing multiple completely non-related innocent people in his cry for help. If that was a cry for help and not an alibi for a planned and premeditated attack.

The system that is supposed to provide that help and take legal steps to protect others has failed so miserably it's even a wonder why we created those laws to prevent this kind of horrific bloodshed.

While on one hand I truly appreciate just how hard it is for the system to deny a person their constitutional rights. The other hand says there are folks who by their own choices should have those rights controlled for the safety and security of the population at large.

There are (were) so many opportunities during the last 12-months (maybe longer during the five years this asshole was permitted by law to buy and own guns) that someone in the legal/medical community could have said - NO! The fact that they (APD) took it away after November '16 and (returned it to him last month) a look at his recent arrests for multiple DV complaints, restraining orders, mental evaluation ordered by the police/FBI as well as his General Discharge and reports from his employer. It boggles my mind that he was simply just someone else's problem.

If they (APD) had (and I don't know that it's a requirement) made him fill out a ATF Form 4473 to receive his gun...he would not have qualified to receive it.

He would have failed the background check under the law.

ETA: He managed to stay one threshold under the Lautenburg Act by never being convicted of DV. Because the system is broken!

Fort Lauderdale shooter was “Aashiq Hammad” on MySpace, recorded Islamic music

January 7, 2017 3:45 pm By Robert Spencer 48 Comments

This Chicago Tribune article confirms that Fort Lauderdale shooter Esteban Santiago is from Penuelas, Puerto Rico, and has a brother named Bryan. Why aren’t establishment propaganda journalists asking Bryan about Aashiq Hammad?

“BREAKING: #FortLauderdale Terrorist #EstebanSantiago Joined MySpace As ‘Aashiq Hammad’, Recorded Islamic Music,” GotNews, January 7, 2017:

Fort Lauderdale Airport terrorist Esteban Santiago registered on MySpace under the name “Aashiq Hammad” and recorded Islamic religious music on the site, 3 years before he ever deployed to Iraq as a U.S. soldier, destroying the lying mainstream media’s narrative that he was just a mentally disturbed veteran and that “Islam had nothing to do with it.”

Here’s how we know all that:

A search of public records database Nexis reveals that Puerto Rican Esteban Santiago has a brother named Bryan Santiago and two e-mails registered to his name:

naotaemail

The second e-mail, “Naota33@hotmail.com”, is how GotNews exclusively visually identified Santiago before every mainstream media outlet and discovered he was posting on an explosives/weapons forum about mass-downloading Islamic terrorist propaganda videos in 2007 yesterday.

Today, we discovered the first e-mail, “Naota017@gmail.com”, in the MySpace database that was leaked earlier this year. This is the raw data we found:

211355052:naota017@gmail.com:aashiqhammad:0x313afa 5189c150b7b0f3e6d39e0fa223f88ec42b:

The middle entry “aashiqhammad” can be added to the MySpace URL to discover the profile that was registered to the e-mail address “Naota017@gmail.com”.

Sure enough, Esteban Santiago registered a MySpace account under the name “Aashiq Hammad”:

Archive here.

“Aashiq Hammad” lists Penuelas, Puerto Rico as his location, just like Esteban Santiago’s records in Nexis.

And take a look at the three songs recorded by “Aashiq Hammad.” The first one is titled “La ilaha illAllah”, which is Arabic for “There is no God but Allah,” and the first half of the Muslim declaration of faith, the Shahadah…

Archive here.

If the location and e-mail weren’t enough proof, “Aashiq Hammad” also has Bryan Santiago — Esteban’s brother — as a connection:

Archive here….

Fort Lauderdale shooter "came here specifically" to attack, terrorism not ruled out

Esteban Santiago,, Bacha Bazi??

January 7, 2017 at 5:39 pm

FWIW, in an effort to determine the meaning of the Islamic identity he chose for himself, this is what surfaced

“Aashiq” (English: The Lover) is a 2001 Bollywood movie
ammad

Pronunciation of Hammad [ham-mad] as a name for boys is an Arabic name, and the meaning of the name Hammad is “praiseworthy”. Hammad is a version of Hamid (Arabic). Hammad is also a variant of Muhammad (Arabic).

Esteban Santiago,, Bacha Bazi??

I hate to think this but,

This will not end well...Unless it's ending just as (everyone) had expected it to come to be...

You know, all the self-appointed "sting" experts.

ETA: From my earlier posted article:

Police received another domestic violence call on Oct. 15 concerning Santiago, but officers were told by a municipal prosecutor not to arrest him, Tolley said. On Oct. 21, police received a call accusing Santiago of strangulation, but officers could not establish probable cause for an arrest, Tolley said.

What exactly is that all about? Who walks into an FBI field office a month later and says the government or ISIS is controlling my mind and are trying to recruit me...when it seems you have already chosen that path perhaps years earlier?

BO -

Fully understand the difficulties, it's just as frustrating to be on the inside as being an outsider trying to determine how certain people come to conclusions.

We have spent a trillion dollars looking for needles in a haystack and when we get pricked on the hand by a needle that walks in the front door we toss it back into the pile and declare it rusty and dull. Not the needle (droids) we are looking for.

As I said, the list of not just FBI but local LE, Psychiatry and the Court system have had the opportunity to intervene before something terrible has happened; is too long to list.

The system is broken and fails more often than it succeeds.

Laws are sometimes great, some laws are sometimes stupid, but when the laws are not enforced or abandoned by the very system in place to protect all parties known and unknown what's the point of having a law? Law abiding citizens don't have multiple encounters with LE over a short period or within the same year. American citizens should practically speaking never speak to an FBI agent in their lifetime.

I'm tired of seeing the results of failures that lead to unimaginable headlines in the news. I'd much rather hear about the success stories where LE prevented an atrocity through good police work and coordination among all departments and agencies that could have prevented it at the public level.

Is that an impossible request? I don't know but the cost of failure is too great.

We have to be right 100% of the time because they only have to try...dramatic failure is still success.

We euthanize rabid animals as a course of protecting the public but, catch and release mentally deranged humans who are far more dangerous to themselves and others. Kick a dog and you may get five-years and big fines, kick a human and you might not even be arrested. If you are, what, less than a year or probation?

ETA: is there anything that could have been done to absolutely prevent this guy or someone else from shooting up the baggage claim or ticketing area? No. Only enough cops available to deter or defeat a determined person from contemplating it in the first place.

ETA2: The (short) video doesn't jive with 'witness' accounts. Any "head shots" are pure luck. That was spray and pray shooting at point blank range on a target rich environment.

ETA3: Can't remember where I saw it (in the news of course) but first witness reports were "it lasted four-minutes" before police intervened. The start to end time was 80-seconds; don't know if that's when he laid down or was confronted by police.

I think press outside of the immediate area is fairly silent. I had to go search.

Esteban Santiago appeared in a Miami federal courtroom on Thursday afternoon where he was deemed competent to stand trial. *Santiago faces 22 federal charges and has pleaded not guilty.

As soon as the motive started to get discussed the press seems to have dropped this entire story. MSM-viewers will have to correct me if I am wrong on that point.
