Very sketchy at the moment. The first report seems confirmed; the second less so.

ETA: Now seeing reports of possible false alarm, but the response was real. Hopefully much ado about nothing, but that country is sure on edge.

French police have swooped on a busy area of Paris amid reports of gunshots and an alert from the government.

There had been fears of an attack on a church.

A vast police operation was launched this afternoon in Les Halles - but officers say the operation has now ended.
