Anyone up on the topic?

Seems like at least one person has been reading..

So I still have friends on my page liking and sharing these anti-pipeline articles and memes. If you don't pipeline for a living, and you're not from North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, or Illinois then you should really stay out of this conversation, especially if you're just going to keep sharing the same lies over and over. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, but this is not about opinions, it's about facts, and the facts are; the Dakota access pipeline DOES NOT cross the Standing Rock reservation, it DOES have all the necessary permits and approvals, and it is NOT disturbing any burial grounds This information is easily accessible online with a quick Google search, but I'll include a map anyway, in case you don't have time to research the lies you're sharing. And here are the links showing they have the permits, and that North Dakota's top archeologists surveyed these sites and found nothing.

http://m.bismarcktribune.com/news/opinion/guest/all-eyes-on-north-dakota-full-story-isn-t-being/article_5dc1e955-fd71-5003-86be-0fa0f29d7fbc.html

http://m.kcci.com/news/archaeologist-no-human-remains-found-at-pipeline-site/41226410

And before you start in about possible water contamination, that's just another scare tactic. The Missouri river will be directionally drilled and the pipeline will have the latest technologies and monitoring systems to help prevent releases and will be constructed 90 feet below the riverbed to ensure nothing may reach the river — far above and beyond what’s required by federal regulations.

Don't be fooled, the battle right now may be against this pipeline, but the war is on oil. I know some of you hate oil (even though you consume as much as the rest of us on a daily basis) but there simply is not enough renewable energy to meet the current demand, so this oil WILL be brought to market one way or another, and the safest way is via pipeline. They have a smaller carbon footprint and are 4.5 times less likely to cause a spill than trains. It's an easy choice. So don't tell me you're against pipelines because you care about the environment, because the two ideas are contradictory.

With that being said, I will not hold back any longer, if you've got the nerve to post these lies, I will call you out on it, so you better do your research before you chime in on something that you know nothing about.

I cannot claim to be up to date completely on the Dakota Pipeline Project but I do know from personal experience that the ONG pipeline industry has been in a slump for the past couple of years. I spent a couple of years doing guidance/engineering work for HDD (horizontal directional drilling) for my brother who owns his own company. There definitely has been a political push against all ONG activity. This Dakota Pipeline project seems to be the topic of the hour it...my 2 Cents. :)

I spent thirty three years of my life working for an underground pipeline company here in Iowa . The first 11 years were spent dealing directly with the folks along the right of way. Most of them were pretty decent to deal with and I would like to think that my company the Williams Company based out of Tulsa Oklahoma was more than fair in dealing with the issues that arose from having a pipeline cross your property. The hostile land owners were the exception. I actually had an individual follow me into a diner once so he could give me a ration of crap about that GD pipeline I worked for. I did eventually change the name on my hard hat to “Nobody” cause when they were spilling their grievances out to me that is who they were dealing with. You can get no lower than a pipeliner.

For the most part the ones that had negative issues were the ones who were pissed because Grampa got the easement check back in the thirties and there was nothing in it for them. We had farmers that were under the impression that they should be getting a nickel a barrel for everything that passed through their property. There was a group here in Iowa that did all they could to get this most recent pipeline stopped, in the end they made the lawyers a lot of money but the pipe is going in the ground.

I have heard all the arguments as to why we should not be building pipelines, dangers to the water sources, crop yield losses, environmental damages etc. etc. but to me they do not ring true. It is in reality a very safe industry, however when there is a pipeline rupture it is big news and it can be catastrophic. So are airline disasters but we do not hear about them every day do we?

Whether you like oil or not it is what moves the nation, not the wind, not solar not ethanol. Given the choice I’d rather have a pipe crossing my property 60+ inches deep than deal with cross country high lines or wind turbines. Pipelines are a safe and economical way to move oil across this country. BTW I also like coal too :) .

Anybody know this guy Wesley Clark, Jr., son of GEN Clark? This non-combat veteran and leftist political activist is apparently going to try his hand at command and lead other veterans to stand against all enemies, foreign and domestic, to stop the pipeline. Apparently, the government wasn't the enemy with Big Zero running things, but now that Trump has been elected to take offie in a couple months, it's time to suit up again and take a moral stand. :roll eyes:

Can someone here enlighten me as to this guy's positive attributes? Just reading the article and gleaning a smidgen of info on Clark, Jr. online isn't helping my opinion of him.

Where I'm at this on the local news every night it seems. From what I know everything was completely approved until the left stepped in and got an injunction to keep them from continuing. I think that is gone now (the injunction) but the company hasn't moved forward yet.
They (the protestors) have been bleating for Obama to step in and tell the pipeline company to stop it all completely.
A few weeks back the big clash with the protestors was because they were on someone's private property and refused to move. They were moved. They have since been blocking state highways and county roads.
There have been a lot of the local departments (LEO) from around here sending their guys out to help.
These "peaceful" protestors have put burned out vehicles and burning tires on the road and have been throwing rocks and everything else at the LEO.
Bunch of spoiled ass, non working, government dependents out doing what they do best!

Need a couple of busloads of S. Korean riot police to show up and fix this situation:D

I also worked for a pipeline for a short time. They put a 42" pipeline under the Red River on the OK/TEX border, twice!

I live in North Dakota, and while I am on the wrong side of the state to have direct experience with the protest, the general consensus of people I know is that the protesters are in the wrong.

What really hurts their case (in my opinion) is that many of the protesters are people who don't live in the state or even the area that would be affected by the pipeline. The trending incident with the protester that had her arm mangled in the last riot in the area was from New York. Of course we also have the regular contingent of celebrities coming through to show "solidarity". Jill Stein was here, and she actually has an arrest warrant out for her in ND (http://www.salon.com/2016/09/08/sheriff-issues-arrest-warrant-for-green-partys-jill-stein-after-north-dakota-oil-pipeline-protest/) which put a damper on her presidential campaign here. Most of the organizers of the protest are hired guns and are really making things worse.

I'm really proud of the police response so far. There hasn't been any real problems with use of force, despite what the media might tell people about how our "militarized police force" is mowing down innocent protesters. People who come from out of state don't realize it gets cold here, so if you don't want to get sprayed with a fire hose when it's going to be below freezing, don't charge the police line. If anything, the police have been in more danger than the protesters given that during one of the evictions from pipeline company owned land one of them got shot at. (http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/north-dakota/4148929-pipeline-protester-accused-shooting-officers-charged-attempted-murder) Fortunately no one was hurt.

The Corps of Engineers has set a December 5th deadline to get off their land, which would shut down the main protest camp. The main camp has no electricity or sewer, so I can only imagine what kind of conditions the protesters have been living in. I would think that the area is going to be ruined for a while after they leave. An interesting item about the camp can be seen by looking at the photos that have been published - I see a lot of vehicles and generators in them, and those things seem to run on fossil fuels. Not a lot of horses tied up, and I can't imagine that the out-of-staters rode anything but luxury SUVs over here.

The governor has just issued an order for everyone to vacate the protest camp (http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4168064-governor-orders-immediate-evacuation-dakota-access-protest-camp) but it sounds like he's not serious about clearing it out if they don't go. The camp is going to have some severe weather here soon though, so hopefully everyone goes on their own.

Really, the best summary of what is actually happening comes from Shawn McCoy. (http://www.grandforksherald.com/opinion/op-ed-columns/4158377-viewpoint-what-dapl-protesters-arent-telling-you) The tribes had been asked for comment and didn't respond in a timely manner.

Perhaps I'm biased because I live in the state and my father works for a major oil pipeline company, but the whole situation has the stink of Soros or the global progessive agenda.

If anyone has questions let me know and I will try to answer, if I can.

There's a few Quiet Professional and Rangers there that work to protect that pipeline. The property at the dispute point is all owned by DAPL and is not on the reservation (minus Corps of Engineers easement). They have made no treats or moves toward the reservation. They are the ones being aggressive. LEO's have used loud speakers pleading with the protesters not to come forward or they might get non lethal means used on them. They still advice knowing this, thats why they wear earplugs, goggles, raincoats, gasmasks and carry sheilds. They have had years to go to the meetings but never showed up or voiced any concerns till this August. If you make an IED to throw at LEO, don't cry foul when it blows up prematurely due to your stupidly.

The Indians, er Native Americans, er First Nations People, you know, the ones who's ancestors immigrated here first are now ticked the "white" protesters are turning it into a Burning Man Festival, trashing the place and doing drugs.

Of course their camp has generators running and lots of vehicles but very few horses.

This protest is bought and paid for by green energy companies. Red Man used by the Evil White Man - again.

Washington Times: Complaints Grow Over Whites Turning Dakota Pipeline Protest into Hippie Festival

Valerie Richardson reports in the Washington Times that some of the Dakota Access pipeline protesters encamped in North Dakota are complaining that “white people” are treating the protest like a hippie festival.

From the Washington Times:

Tension is brewing within the Dakota Access protest as complaints grow about outside activists trashing the camps, mooching off donations, and treating the anti-pipeline demonstration like a Burning Man-style festival for hippies.

Below zero weather for weeks at a time will most likely dampen their spirits. Me thinks the Corps of Engineers closed the land down so when a bunch of them freeze to death they won't be held liable....I don't think the Corps or governor will try to remove them. As JJ_BPK said I think nature will do that for them.

Looks like there was a bit of trouble recently (http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4171672-three-accused-endangering-pipeline-worker-backwater-bridge) for one of the security contractors (please ignore the 30-round "clip" in the article ). Sounds like he got "no-billed" by the Morton County sheriff but it's interesting that the protesters are escalating their tactics. I hope that all three suspects are brought to justice.

Once again, the law enforcement and contractors on-site have done very well in avoiding any bloodshed and keeping things as calm as possible. I'm glad that they have managed to be as patient as they are. It's helping to avoid a total media smear job.

EDIT: This happened in October and is just being covered now. Removed sections relating to escalation due to main campsite shutdown.

imo, those opposing the pipeline argued religious sites and burial grounds were the issue. The pipeline company could have settled this early on, simply by locking the opposition in their stated terms, respecting “Native” sites and moving the connection point to a new location that does not impact their belief system.

Pipeline runs adjacent to another natural gas pipeline that was put in 1980s, so any sites would have been found then. Pipeline is also NOT on the reservation. Do they object anytime someone digs anywhere in ND as it was also once Sioux land also?

An actual CNN piece (http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/29/us/dakota-pipeline-standing-rock-sioux/) (no pink font, really) that looks at another angle.

What's up with the Dakota Access Pipeline?

The Dakota Access Pipeline will move 470,000 barrels of domestic crude oil a day through four states
It will run near a reservation in North Dakota, the site of months-long protests

Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, North Dakota (CNN)Ask around and you'll hear stories of pipeline protesters who've traveled great distances.
They've come from Japan, Russia and Germany. Australia, Israel and Serbia. And, of course, there are the allies, not exclusively Native American or indigenous, who've flocked here from all corners of the US.

Together they stand in opposition to the Dakota Access Pipeline, a $3.7 billion investment to move 470,000 barrels of domestic crude oil a day through four states. They're fighting against what they see as corporate greed, an environmental threat and an assault on sacred land.

Demonstrating is their proud daily work.

The Standing Rock Sioux call this reservation home, and many are not on the frontlines of this months-long, and at times violent, protest. With no end in sight, what does it mean to them? And are they even united in their support?
The answer to that last question: Not even close.

Wishing they'd go home
No one makes this clearer than Robert Fool Bear Sr., 54, district chairman of Cannon Ball. The town he runs, estimated population of 840, is just a few miles from the action. It's so close that, given the faceoffs with law enforcement, you have to pass through a police checkpoint to reach it.
It's about time people heard from folks like him, he says.

Fool Bear has had it with the protesters. He says that more than two years ago, when members of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe could have attended hearings to make their concerns known, they didn't care. Now, suddenly, the crowds are out of control, and he fears it's just a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt.

Go down to the camps, he says, and you won't see many Standing Rock Sioux.
"It irks me. People are here from all over the world," he says. "If they could come from other planets, I think they would."

The presence of all these people has become a downright nuisance to his community, he says. Given the roadblocks, residents of Cannon Ball are often forced to go more than 40 miles out of their way.

Not long ago, he found three teenage girls from Ontario, Canada, camped out inside his storage shed. A white woman from Spokane, Washington, came to see him for help, saying she'd come here with nothing and her car had broken down. When he was at the casino recently, someone approached him about two young kids who were on their own because their parents had been arrested.

The situation has dissolved to madness, he says, and he wishes Dave Archambault II, the Standing Rock Sioux chairman, would speak up.

"If he had any balls, he'd tell [the protesters] to go home," Fool Bear says.
And he's not alone in feeling this way. Two women who listen in as he talks keep nodding in agreement, but they don't want to speak.

Just look at a recent vote in the community for further proof that Fool Bear's not the only naysayer. When protest organizers presented a request to build a new winter camp in Cannon Ball earlier this month, his community shot it down.

Balance of the piece (with some pics) at the link above.

Here in Montana (and I'm not in the mountains) it's 9 degrees F at 2000 hrs at my location. With the weather forecast (ND to get very cold too) to be in the singles for the next few days I expect some poor fool was quite worried about frozen bodies and whined to the administration. And, since Trump had hinted in favor of it, it would and I think did make another barb against the incoming admin.
It didn't cross any reservation land but the yahoo on the news tonight (some Sioux spokesman) said that it crossed under their water which they had treaty rights for.......whaaaa, whhaaaaa, whhaaaaa......
As stated above, why did they not go to the initial meetings.......because they were too damn lazy and really didn't care until someone put them on the news!
This so called president has set a bad precedent with allowing all of the rioters to rule the roost wherever they spring up.
This next administration really needs to nip that in the butt the next time it happens. So what if the media shows a bunch violent protestors getting the shit beat out of them? Freedom of speech needs to end when you are attacking LEO or destroying property!
Sorry, had to rant. The local news showed all the hippies and Indians doing their celebratory dancing!
(According to the news, the pipeline was 98% complete!)

I woke up this morning to 9 inches of nice wet snow and a blizzard warning. Most of the state is now under a no travel advisory, and I see that the protest camp (http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/4173561-dakota-pipeline-protesters-hit-blizzard) got hit pretty hard as well. Looks like Team Sergeant was right about the weather being the beginning of the end of the protest. Even the Standing Rock chairman is urging people to go home. Sounds like Trump will be re-evaluating the permit denial when he takes office, so it's a temporary victory anyway.

Did The Veterans At The Standing Rock Protest Just Get Played? Because It Sure Seems That Way.
by Scott Faith

What a difference a few days makes.

After responding to a (fundamentally misguided) call to action to support the Standing Rock protest, hundreds and perhaps thousands of US military veterans are now without basic necessities, without leadership, and now (after being asked to leave by the protest organizers), without a mission.

After literally rallying the troops through “Veterans Stand for Standing Rock” and raising over a million dollar through GoFundMe, and apparently having accomplished their real mission of calling attention to themselves, far-left social justice warrior Wes Clark Jr. and his compatriots seem to be… absent.

Well, at least they’re absent from where the danger and discomfort are. they certainly weren’t absent from where the spotlight was.
