Milwaukee imposes curfew to quell rioting sparked by police shooting

The city of Milwaukee imposed a 10 p.m. curfew on Monday in an attempt to quell rioting that erupted the previous two nights in response to the police shooting of an armed black man in one of the most segregated cities in the United States.

Mayor Tom Barrett also renewed his call for state officials to release a video of the Saturday night shooting in hopes it convinces angry protesters that deadly force against Sylville K. Smith, 23, was justified.

"There is a curfew that will be more strictly enforced tonight for teenagers," Barrett told a news conference. "So parents, after 10 o'clock your teenagers better be home or in a place where they're off the streets."

Milwaukee has become the latest American city to be gripped by violence in response to police killings of black men in places such as Ferguson, Missouri, in 2014 and Baltimore last year.

Famed for its breweries, Milwaukee is also one of the most segregated cities in America, with a large concentration of unemployed black men in the inner city separated from the mostly white suburbs.

Such inequality has afflicted many U.S. cities as a result of the loss of manufacturing jobs over the past three decades, sometimes stoking unrest when police use deadly force.

Milwaukee is fully-mission capable to conduct their own social justice operations, living under the libtard Dem Mayor enabler Barrett for years.
Mark Hale, 52, who works the third shift at the Hilton hotel downtown, said he was driving home and stopped by on his own to pick up trash.

“Instead of being part of the problem, I wanted to be part of the solution,” he said. “I figured if I started picking up trash, other people might do the same.”

Hale, who is African-American and his lived in the city his whole life, said he attributed the fires to “a lot of idiots who don’t have jobs and don’t want to have jobs.”Because nothing supports your cause better than looting & burning down the businesses in your neighborhood. Ain't all this racial healing a wonder to behold? I'm so glad the newly-annointed POTUS and his Cambridge professor bro' set the tone from the jump.

In further reply to Hand, no apologies need I might add, as it's a very good question; but from my limited experience the best way to is simply analyze the crowd. A crowd's age group (be on the look out for Military Aged Males), sound level, use of profanities, lack of signs (as in posters, boards etc.), the crowd's response to Law Enforcement commands, etc.

Though what I have seen from Guard units in Baltimore, Ferguson etc. The Guard is far more likely to be deployed to secure important buildings and to stand back while the civvie cops go out and crack skulls. It's not the LA Riots (where the Cal Guard actually engaged rioters with violence) - American Media broadcasting uniformed Soldiers in contact (as in violence) with rioting civilians is not something the Guard Bureau, let alone the Military would want projected.

The days of the Detroit, LA and Watts Riots are literally long gone

During almost 20 years, I have worked many peaceful protests , and some not so peaceful. Once on the ground, it's evident from the start to gauge the intent.

I've walked with Palestinians, Israelis and Unions etc ( never had to work one with the Amish, i don't know why). Most are there to attract attention to their cause. To be loud, vocal and it usually ends with a podium at some government building to outline their grievance. They want the police there to ensure that opposing sides don't interfere with their march.

The not so peaceful, typically wait for a critical mass and quickly engage the police, in an attempt to provoke reaction. Social media is the rule of the day and every reaction to provocation is captured for immediate biased dissemination. If not immediately confronted by overwhelming police presence (sheer numbers, not necessarily riot gear, batons etc), it escalates quickly till they get the reaction they want. By then, criminal damage, etc feeds the mob mentality.

Simply put, it's readily apparent to discern whether a group is there to peacefully communicate a grievance with government or to engage police and riot.

It is purely a canard that ANYONE wants to take weapons. There is an outcry that the power structure is going to use (Pick one) police, AD military, USAR, ARNG, FBI, homeland security. There are 250 million gun owners out of a population of 350 million. I would offer that a large pool of out of shape, well trained at some point, that would take a confiscation VERY personal.
