Considering the uptick of attacks utilizing weapons other than firearms, this kitchen knife may be a legal carry, as it is a kitchen tool.

Suspiciously cheap for a Damascus knife of that size. Maybe I missed on the website if it said if the billet was made in the US. I suspect it's Pakistani-made out of manhole covers and who knows what else and they put the handle on in the US.
If I'm wrong and it's forged in the US, that's a good price.
I'm not a prosecutor, but the fact that it's a kitchen knife could prove to be a weak defense. I'm not sure there's any difference between carrying this and a Randall fighter.

That knife blade is too long to carry in Texas.

I am wrong in thinking the "beauty" in damascus is the fact that the layered iron & steel didn't weld correctly. Not enough flux and heat, leaving the vestige of the incomplete weld marks as the design??
I can remember the first time I was handed an old double barrel shotgun and looking at the twisted wire used to create the barrels. Looked great, very integrate design, but I always wondered if it was inherently weak and only used because the technology was not up to speed??

I really don't want a duel purpose chef knife. My 10 inch Shun Premier Chef's Knife (https://www.amazon.com/Shun-TDM0707-Premier-Chefs-10-Inch/dp/B004M410JU)is just fine.
I carry one of their Ruby knife usually every day(deployment). I had my doubts but I have been surprised by it. Came sharp, holds its edge, deals with West African critters and vegetation pretty well. May look in to another of their products when I get back. Also, if you call they will give a military discount. The main number goes straight to the owner.
Edit: I do believe the steel comes from Pakistan. I remember reading somewhere that the owners family works in the metal industry there still and he gets the products from them. Either way, I am pleased by the knife I have.
jj_bpk typical modern Damascus patterns are developed by forged welding 2 different alloys that etch differently when exposed to the acid. One oxidizes darker than the other supplying the pattern. Some folks like I believe the desrosiers have a method to further enhance this using bluing or parkerizing and polishing to leave the darker alloy even darker than acid etch alone. The welding between the layers should be complete regardless to avoid layer separation or delamination.
The ancient wootz type Damascus, if I understand correctly has a pattern generated by precipitated carbides. This results from the qualities of and production methods of the single steel alloy vs pattern welding.
