Heavy teen marijuana use may cut life short by 60
By MARY BROPHY MARCUS CBS NEWS April 22, 2016, 3:07 PM
Heavy marijuana use in the late teen years puts men at a higher risk for death by age 60, a new long-term study suggests.
Swedish researchers analyzed the records of more than 45,000 men beginning in 1969 and 1970. The scientists from the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm reported that 4,000 died during the 42-year follow-up period, and men who'd used marijuana heavily at ages 18 and 19 were 40 percent more likely to die by age 60 compared to guys who hadn't used the drug.
The authors of the new study, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, said the findings contradict previous research involving the same group of men.
But this study was longer and participants might have reached an age where the long-term effects of cannabis were taking a toll on health, said addiction expert Scott Krakower, an assistant unit chief of psychiatry at Zucker Hillside Hospital, in New Hyde Park, NY.
"Cannabis users have poorer health in general. You'd expect there to be increased mortality risk," Krakower told CBS News. He pointed to another long-term study linking early heavy marijuana use with lung cancer, and a second study that associates the drug with increased heart problems.

This makes perfect sense since being a liberal requires a lazy state of mind which leads to inactivity especially brain activity LOL.
I always notice liberals stances are not taking a stance except for stances that require no real brain power the perpetual college freshman thought process.
I mean for crying out loud it takes energy and compl4ex higher thinking to understand that the 15.00 minimum wage will kill jobs and send companies overseas or shut doors, I mean you actually have to do math and think about historically destructive wage hikes such as the auto industry who pulled up stakes and went anywhere they could get cheap wage. I mean this takes some awareness, reading and common sense to understand how unions have destroyed jobs in industry for the most part. Micro and macro economics are tough subjects to understand understanding Mazlows hierarchy of needs is alot of work.
Oh well why think when you could light up a blunt of some chronic and forget about it all.

I'd have to say smoking dope, and there's a reason it's called dope.
Alcohol been around thousands of years and man only continues to grow older and die older.
So with this evidence you tell me which is worse.
From what I have seen in my 70 plus years on the planet, I'd have to say booze is far worse.
Marijuana's use as a euphoric is noted in a Chinese medical reference from 2732 BC.

I'm sure it was noted by the Chinese medical folk as well as Rino horns, elephant tusks, bear claws, tiger livers, shark fins, etc etc etc etc etc etc. You make an excellent argument.
I wonder if this is a possible example of correlation is not necessarily causation?
How many marijuana smokers in the study:
Also smoked tobacco regularly/long term and/or
Also consumed alcohol well beyond just in moderation and/or
Alos comsumed other recreational drugs and/or
Also consumed a diet high in processed sugar and "low in fat" and/or
Also were statistically less active physically
At the time the study started the medical community was only beginning to understand the negative impacts from high LDL and triglycerides.
I wonder how the above correlate with the marijuana study, if recorded?

As with any medication, there is a therapeutic range for dosing.

I think about that range every time I strap on my holster..... how much is enough? :munchin
Yea, always a good idea to toke up before you clear a house full of BG's.
Makes you sharp; just look at Chong. (That ain't no act.)

For bad guys?
Minimum effective dose of 14,900 milligrams; Pb and Cu, pill form, injectable directly into the sternum or nasal cavity.
Increase dosage until symptoms fully suppressed.

I wonder what would happen if we just legalized it all, marijuana, opiates, methamphetamine, etc? Heck, it's going to happen at some point anyway. Moreover, our attempts to keep people from using the stuff have failed.
Specifically, what would be the 2nd and 3rd level effects?
Also, am I the only one confused by the seemingly contradictory positions our society is advocating? We run commercials to keep people from smoking cigarettes, but pass laws allowing and almost advocating the use of marijuana. Our society pushes toward the normalization of LGBT persons, to the point that no one knows which bathroom to use, but then the government relocates a bunch of Muslims into the country, a religion notorious for its horrific treatment of homosexuals.

2nd and 3rd order effects are well established by the liberal left...free needles, cooking pots, counseling, drug treatment programs and social workers, welfare and section 8 housing, children's services for the addicted moms...
It's the perfect self-licking-ice cream-cone!

Looking at it from a business perspective we have spent billions on a 'war on drugs' and it has basically been a failure. People are going to smoke ganja whether it's legal or not. I don't use drugs or even drink anymore but look at some of the tax revenue that's being created in the areas where it's been legalized. A few of the financially troubled cities in the county where I live have all voted to legalize medical marijuana stores and they are making lots of money.

I recognize that I'm "old." But I would have no use for anyone that's using while at work. I wouldn't want my kids/grandkids on a school bus driven by someone that's using; wouldn't want to work next to anyone that's using; wouldn't want to shop anywhere where their employees were using. Hell I don't even eat at restaurants that can't get their employees to pull up their pants while serving my meals. Most mornings I wake up and can't recognize the country I love anymore. About the only thing that's okay to criticize is the guy that works for a living, pays his taxes, goes to church, and disciplines his children so they'll be good citizens.

Well stated, thank you! I will never get over the impression I have of the morons I had to serve in the military with that were pot heads.
