I am 30 years old, and I have noticed a pattern among my age group and those younger. Those from this generation who have a public education of K-12 tend to lean left, without even knowing what left is. Those with college "education" tend to lean even farther left, and are aware of what it is they want (based on years of corrupt ideology and false pretenses). So often I hear people who "hate politics/politicians," but default to leftist opinions as a result of life-long conditioning.
I recently met a Force Recon guy that is entering the SF pipeline. During a random chat with a bunch of group guys and NQPs (like me), this Marine actually said "I kinda like Bernie... or at least I like his message." I believe this guy has an undergrad degree, but that blew me away nonetheless. He was caught off guard by the fact that many of us did not buy into the global warming "crisis."
Respect to this Marine for his resume, but I sincerely hope his views are a rarity among the ranks...

What do you expect when we have allowed Marxist hippies to run our schools and universities for the last 40 years?
Bloodless insurgency here for decades and no one cares. The left took over the schools, the media, and Hollywood. And now they are starting to infiltrate the military.
We are fucked.

Bernie is an avowed Socialist in a country based on a mostly Capitalistic economy meaning that he has never had to cope with the consequences of Socialism. The same is true for all his followers. They are not taught about the long history of failed Socialist states.
This is an object failure to teach this generation not only history but morality and ethics. They may agree that you can't steal from your neighbor but it's ok when the government does the stealing for you.

IMO this is a direct result of the increase of Federal Government growth. The Great Society, the War on Poverty and the establishment of the Federal Dept of Education.
All three are Socialist promoting and all three directly influence young Americans.
It will take a BIG effort for States to push any of this back. Convention of States?

My dad was an old union democrat, who carried a BAR with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in Korea. He used to say, "Republicans are for big business, Democrats are for little business". Jim Webb was the last of this type of Democrat, and he got laughed off the stage at the 1st Democratic debate.
A socialist is just a patient communist. Even Marx said that socialism is just a stop along the line leading to communism. It, like other tyrannies, comes from having no value of an individual in society.
The New York Post just ran this about Sanders' past. He is a damned communist.

^^^^^It all goes back to this:
http://www.professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38870
"The research, led by David Dunning, a psychologist at Cornell University, shows that incompetent people are inherently unable to judge the competence of other people, or the quality of those people's ideas. For example, if people lack expertise on tax reform, it is very difficult for them to identify the candidates who are actual experts. They simply lack the mental tools needed to make meaningful judgments.
As a result, no amount of information or facts about political candidates can override the inherent inability of many voters to accurately evaluate them. On top of that, "very smart ideas are going to be hard for people to adopt, because most people don’t have the sophistication to recognize how good an idea is,"
Given any sense of history, particularly how it ended for the USSR, I too am baffled how anyone could take socialism/communism to be any more credible than the old earth is flat theory.
IMHO any young American who buys into socialist notions should go spend a week in Cuba and see first hand the benefits of decades of "the worker's paradise."

Are you sure that they won't a quaint happy place with beautiful weather and beaches that will now get much better once they start trading with the US (Never mind that they have been able to trade with the rest of the world for decades).

You would think Cuba has those features, but the beaches and especially the infrastructure are shockingly bad, even by Caribbean standards, I don't expect them to become a booming tourist location anytime soon.
Part of it is the decades of socialist programming. The people were definitely nice enough, but it just seemed they were always waiting for someone to tell them what to do, like any initiative or self determination had been weeded out of them for generations.

I was being facetious and should have used pink. I wrote that with the consideration that every famous actor/activist that goes to Cuba absolutely loves it.
How can Michael Moore, Sean Penn, and Jay Z all be so wrong....?
The one redeeming quality I see about Bernie Sanders is his emphasis on special interest campaign finance pollution in the US political process.
Awareness, understanding of, and opposition to excessive special influence over the US political process could possibly reach an inflection point(for very good reason, I reckon it's THE core US problem) where Sanders is well positioned to benefit.
Sadly, he completely failed to knock out Hillary Clinton at the last Democrat debate when he had ample opportunity, very very odd.

I think someone might've posted this in another thread, but I couldn't find it - sorry if it is a repost. Jesse Watters interviewed numerous Sanders supporters from the ME generation at the Univ of Oregon. They were asked about good o'l Bernie and their responses would be hilarious if it weren't for the fact that they were genuine AND these kids vote.

I believe that this Sanders man is in fact a bigger danger than Obama was to America. In South Africa, we made the mistake of presuming that Communism was dead when the Berlin Wall fell. The people who held power then voted to go to a majority rule system that put the "old Communists" into the presidency and government. Although the Soviet Union was a thing of the past and China was becoming a Command Capitalist society, it didn't protect us from a small band of Communists who tirelessly wangled their way into the cabinet over the years without having to test themselves democratically. This small group work hard to bring about their dream of a New Democratic Revolution, which means the total breakdown of our capitalist system and replacing it with an entirely nationalised country, centrally controlled by card carrying Communists.
Despite having no successful models to point to, the old style Communists still hang on to their dreams and are prepared to totally destroy the country in order to realise them.
I hope America has not been lulled into believing that Communism is dead. It isn't and it lies ready to destroy you in seemingly benign creatures like Mr Sanders.

I think we're too late to think we haven't been lulled. What these folks think is that there IS such thing as "soft socialism" or a "socio-capitalist" solution. They always use Europe as the example. What they don't understand is that Europe's "socialism" is propped up by aMErica's (thanks Billy) capitalism. Once we go FULL RETARD it will send the world into chaos, and then, who knows what will happen... Civil wars, revolutions of all sorts, fascism/warlordism will be the "new normal".

This is what worries me. Over here they also gauge the atmosphere and attitude from around the world particularly the US. Once as you say they see the US administration go full retard (They have been noting it for a long while already) These guys are waiting in the wings and they will play a pivotal role no matter who is in the majority. These guys will turn South Africa into the next Somalia. They have already caused the ANC Youth League to "raise their game" and threaten a Civil War and in a short two years have shaken any semblance of political stability (or the illusion thereof) to its core. You are absolutely right. The ramifications of these elections are of global consequence.

The educational system has indeed turned everyone into socialists/leftists. Every class I go to there is a dig on conservatives about being heartless, evil, hating the poor- etc. It is taken as conventional wisdom- no-one even questions it.
The current batch of youngsters think all the Founding Fathers were evil--- and their emphasis on freedoms evil as well. The only thing that matters is "social justice." And the best way to get there is to split everyone into identity groups- the more the merrier.
A great question today is, if you're in the military- what are you fighting for? Several think-tank sessions around SOCOM have asked these specific questions lately:
- What do we do the first time a unit or country refuse to let an ODA in to train their bubbas because there's a female on the ODA? Will the State Dept take them off the vetted list and treat them like they were a human rights abusing unit? Will they make a international incident out of it? Demand the country "fix" themselves?
- What happens when a unit or country does the same about a homosexual?
- What about a transsexual?
- How can our psyop units counter the propaganda that the Kardashians and the like send overseas? Hollywood is doing a better job than ISIS ever thought to turn people against the West and America.
- Will we deploy into a country to save homosexuals from being persecuted if they aren't being given their "universal rights"?
- If a woman doesn't fit on an ODA because the ODA has 10 alpha males on it- do we get rid of the 10 alpha males and keep the 1 woman? Or, if the woman just is a douche-bag- will we be able to get rid of her like we do guys- or will we be stuck with douche-bag women?
These kinds of questions and discussions make me wonder how much longer traditional alpha males will continue to volunteer to join our Army and fight overseas... for what?? Increasingly America is not about freedom--- it is about equality of outcome and social justice- and glorifying people like the Kardashians... do we fight no matter what the political elite are doing/pushing in this country? Will you sacrifice yourself for the progressive agenda? So that some kid overseas can have the same rights your kids have--- the right to chemically change themselves into a different sex and demand that everyone ignore their biology? The right to be offended at anything and everything if you are of a certain group? The right to payments or free things if you are of a certain group? The right to turn hard work and competence into evil things?

Serious, yet tongue-in-cheek.
If you are a fan of PJ O'Rourke....this posted on BBC (http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-35521558)
Most of Bernie's support comes from people who weren't born when his ideas were in vogue. They're too young to know that what Bernie says may sound like it makes sense during the dorm room bull session, but sooner or later you have to put the bong down and exhale.
Liked this line from PJ O'Rourke:
Marco Rubio may emerge as the moderate Republican choice. He has a couple of things going for him.
Rubio is a Washington "outsider". Well, actually, he's a US senator. But he's missed a lot of senate votes, and I assume that was because, during the voting, Rubio was outside Washington. This counts.

Ya know Paslode,
Except for the some positions where a Federal employee swears to defend and protect the Constitution, would there be much change to anything if our nation went Full Retard Socialist?
With the last seven years of going full steam ahead on changing Amerika, even those in positions of authority and capable of stopping it are now supportive of it.
For a period of time, I lived in Europe as a civilian, with no ties to the USA in anything I did. I was a "Foreign National" hosted by my then wife in her country. When I had to deal with anything government related, there was not much difference in the activities of that Socialist leaning nation.
Oh, there was one thing. The government employees over there seamed a lot nicer than here in the USA. Everyone knew the government provided certain services and the employees were a part of that. Over here, many government employees despise anyone that is not a government employee and are not shy about it.
Bernie is a loser who is delusional. But at the very least, he is an honest loser who is honest about his delusions.

Here, if any of your friends/family etc. don't know what this country would look like IF Bernie is elected POTUS, just show them this ....
Venezuela Declares Another Emergency: It Has Run Out of Food
Venezuela’s opposition legislature has declared a “nutritional emergency,” proclaiming that the country simply does not have enough food to feed its population. The move comes after years of socialist rationing and shortages that forced millions to wait on lines lasting as long as six hours for a pint of milk, a bag of flour, or carton of cooking oil.
Opposition legislator Julio Borges announced the measure on Thursday, which would allow the legislature to push for more imports on basic food goods and inspect government-owned food companies to ensure they are meeting efficiency standards. “This will make corporations and expropriated lands produce food again, will simplify the process of national and foreign investment, and establish incentives for investors,” Borges promised.
Socialist party members are arguing that the decree goes beyond the scope of the power of the legislature and cannot override the executive decree President Nicolás Maduro put into motion in January, which declared an “economic emergency” and allowed the government to further intervene in private corporations. Venezuela’s Supreme Court extended the viability of the emergency decree this week, in a move many consider an attempt to keep the opposition legislature from asserting too much power over the food industry in Venezuela.
Socialist legislators also warned that “a food emergency would be an excuse for an American intervention.” While most economic experts attribute Venezuela’s dire economic situation to years of socialist mismanagement and, more recently, the international drop in crude oil prices, Venezuela’s government has long blamed the United States. Most recently, Maduro blamed American officials for allegedly prompting a violent supermarket riot in which the fight for bags of flour left one dead.
A recent report by the Spanish newspaper ABC highlights the struggle the average Venezuelan endures to acquire basic goods like butter, oil, and flour. “Five hours in line to buy a chicken; kicks, pushes, and blows of all kinds to be one of the fortunate ones to enter the supermarket and get away with a bag of flour or rice, basic goods that Venezuela does not have available to everyone, unfortunately.” It notes that many Venezuelans have used their cell phones to take videos of the violence now common in supermarkets:
The situation grew so dire that, in January 2015, reports began surfacing of professional “line-sitters“: individuals who, for a price, would wait in a supermarket line and buy you the little your ration card could afford.
The socialist government has proposed few solutions to this crisis. Last month, President Maduro insisted that those struggling to find basic foods should develop urban farming skills, claiming that all the eggs eaten in his household come from chickens he and First Lady Cilia Flores own.
Borges, the opposition legislator at the forefront of the new emergency initiative, is demanding the National Assembly investigate government-held food corporations to ensure they are working efficiently. “We used to be a self-sufficient country, making basic products like white corn; today our arepas don’t have the pride of being Venezuelan, instead they are made with Mexican corn… we used to be self-sufficient on rice, and now we bring it in from the United States,” Borges lamented.
Socialist legislators are hoping to manipulate the initiative in the other direction, and use it to expand government control of private food enterprises. Legislator Héctor Rodríguez has insisted that the economic emergency “does absolutely nothing,” and the government should impose itself on private enterprises. Another socialist legislator, Ricardo Molina, is calling for the government to expropriate Polar, Venezuela’s largest private food corporation: “we have to intervene on private sector enterprises.”
Venezuela previously forced a Polar food distribution center in Caracas to shut down in July, putting 12,000 tons of food, six million liters of soft drinks, and 2,000 jobs at risk.
