I am not paid by Wellco, I just wanted to pass on an experience that I recently had with them.
A few weeks ago I was walking and felt something rubbing in my boot. When I took a look at it I discovered that my Wellcos had rubbed through the liner in the boot and that was the source of my irritation.
I went to their website and sent an email to customer service asking if it was their boot or me that caused the wear (the boots were only 4 weeks old). I received a very nice email asking a few questions and stating that I need to return the boots so they can look at it.
Today I received an email letting me know that a new pair was en-route, no questions asked, my only cost was shipping and not having a spare pair of boots on-hand for two weeks. I was told that something caused my heel to rub the liner and that caused the wear; the new pair was a half size larger than what I ordered and that is supposed to fix the problem.
I cannot say enough good things about the folks at Wellco. If I need another pair of boots they will get my business.

Today I recieved a pair of their ICBIRR's, Ingenius socks and Superfeet insoles. They're all great, and I've dealt with their costumer service before. I can't say enough good things about them either.

Concur.
You can spend a lot more money, but it is hard to beat the Wellcos in the ICB, Jungle, or Desert configuration.
I have all three and they are outstanding field boots.

Great boots, no break in required, and was able to get them with ripple soles straight from the factory.

I want to echo the remarks made by Psywar in that my wellco's required very little break in as well. As a line Inf guy all I see at my level is Magnums and Matterhorns. Thanks to this forum I think I'm the only guy in the unit to have ever heard of Wellco's. :cool:
I bought a pair of the all leather tuffkushions a couple weeks before Christmas leave, treated (not soaked) them with Neatsfoot oil, and they are now officially "the bomb". They serve all my requirments; light weight, waterproof (thanks to the oil treatment), and now comfortable and soft enough for rucking and/or running. The only problem I encountered was the generous amount of leather for the tongue if not managed early will crease in on itself and leave you with a permanent line of pressure on the top of your foot if you don't have huge ankles. Despite that I love them and since I didn't buy them directly from the factory I want to give prop's to Flav's Combat Foot Gear in Columbus GA for they're accomodating and friendly business.
On a related note, I'm going to get fitted for orthotics on Tuesday, and from what little i know, apparently they CANNOT be worn in footwear with existing insoles. Which leaves me with the question of how i'm going to pull off combat boots with hard insoles. Is this a danger to my feet or joints at all? If anynone has any experience with these I'd appreciate some insight. Thanks in advance.

I'm bumping this thread up to keep people abreast of a potential problem with the tuffkushion brand of boots sold by Wellco.
First off a little history. I puschased a pair of All-leather Wellco tuffkushions last December, and up until now they've performed very well. That said, i can't say that this problem can or necessarily will apply to any other type of boot from Wellco other than the Tuffkushion models.
Secondly, the potential problem. I just came off a three week exercise to notice some separation between the sole and the leather of the boot. I wasn't very happy when I noticed this but it didn't seem too substantial at first. However, upon closer inspection the pulling away of the sole from the leather seems to be much worse than I thought extending from the toe past the ball of the foot. It almost looks as if the glue holding the sole in place gave way.
The only reason I can come up with is either the days of Coy advance to contact that involved a lot of "up, he sees me, down" over rocky terrain, or the fact that i treated the leather with neatsfoot oil. I've inculded some pictures for a better dedscription.

Too much Neatsfoot Oil and extreme wear.
Only problem I have had with Tuffcushions has been sole wear, and since I wear them when riding the scooter, I can't really complain.
Since I switched to the Desert Boots, the sole wear has improved greatly.
I would take them by the Combat Footgear store on Reilly Road, and ask them what they think. Can't hurt, and they may have a resoling program.
If you keep them, try caulking them up with some Shoe Goo or industrial adhesive from the tube like Liquid Nails.
Just my .02, YMMV.

I had the same problem with my issued combat boots, because I putted too much neatfoot oil on them. I think we should put neatfoot oil AFTER the breaking. That's what I did with the other pair, no problem, and they are more comfortable than a 4 years breaking.

Got a quick question....how cold does it get up North of Bagdad?? I am going to order a pair of the Wellco's, but not sure if I should get the insulated ones or not. My feet are usually cold as hell......and do the sizes tend to run true from your experience, or should I order a wide like I do with the issue ones because they shquish the top and forefoot??

I don't know about the Wx conditions north of Baghdad but here at Bagram it got down to about 10 F with snow. With Ingenious Boot socks my feet never got that cold. Cold, but not very cold in the Wellco ICBs. I spent about 2-3 hours at a stretch outside so if you are in the elements more then YMMV. They are a lot warmer than regular jungle boots.

Yes. I wear a 10 1/2 wide jungle boot/ issue boot, a 10 1/2 wide Hiking boot (Danner) 10 1/2 wide running shoes, and 10 1/2 wide Wellco ICBs.

Drive over to the Combat Footgear store just off Bragg on Reilly Road and try them on.
As a female, you may not be a standard size, and better to find out before you buy them.
The lady there (former Marine) will treat you right.

I too will vouch for the lady at the Combat Footgear Store. I had a problem with a pair I bought and she fixed it immediately, no questions asked, etc. etc. Impeccable customer service and a good product too. At this point I can't imagine going anywhere else for field/range boots. Kudos to TR for pointing me in that direction to start with. Peregrino

Go by Leo, 8 years of military service, currently with a LRS Det, planning on joining the SF community in a very near future.
If this is any example of your situational awareness, I would not bother planning on a PCS to Bragg.
