who did we release to get back five Americans? And at what true price? I'm sure only time will tell, but we can probably base those calculations on who, exactly, we let go.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad five families are getting their loved ones back. But my joy is tempered with worry over how many families will lose their loved ones forever because of this deal. Or, how many others will be detained for their future potential swap value.
Five Gitmo graduates for one poor, misguided idealistic daffodil.
Now, five American citizens, all of whom were warned not to go where they did, for how many Iranians? None of whom were charged with violence or terrorism, or so this administration assures us. I'm sure they were all in various county jails for failure to pay parking tickets or overdue library charges. Seriously, I'm not finding any confirmation of even the names much less the backgrounds on who we just let go.
And now we also know, as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story about the USN Farsi Island slumber party.
As always, I mean no disrespect to our personnel in uniform, nor do I hold them responsible for FUBAR orders and situations like this. I don't feel sorry for them, or even for us, because I'm too pissed for any other emotion.
November can't come soon enough.
