Driver's licenses from 5 states no longer valid ID to enter Fort Bragg

http://www.fayobserver.com/military/driver-s-licenses-from-states-no-longer-valid-id-to/article_fcea80a9-3cec-5e92-980b-35735d055d4d.html

"Fort Bragg visitors from some states will no longer be allowed to use only their driver's license to enter the post.

Officials have said the nation's largest military installation has begun enforcement of the REAL ID Act, a 10-year-old law meant to help lawmakers detect fake identification following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Fewer than half of all states currently comply with the law, but most others, including North Carolina, have received an extension to comply by Oct. 10...."

If NC doesn't get on board it's DL will not be good come Oct 10th.

I suppose other bases are the same.

Well I am glad to see they have their priorities straight

Move the polling location onto Military bases. No valid (and legal) DL, no vote.:D

I thought you had to have a CAC to get on any post anyway

Ft Sill is the same.

CAARNG 68W If you do not have a CAC you need an alternate form of ID to get thru the Visitor Control Center and a DL from those 5 states is no longer accepted as a valid form of ID for a visitor pass.

There is no Enterprise wide guidance from IMCOM on the changes to access control, other than we must comply with the law. That law of course is the
READ ID Act.

1. Apparently it went into effect on 31 Dec 15 in terms of execution.

2. IMCOM PM shop sent a note to installation Physical Security last Friday with the guidance that we no longer accept Driver's Licenses from the 5 listed states for purposes of access or passes. Those states are:
Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico and Washington

3. Region Chief of Staff stated he believes it is acceptable to grandfather those we have previously issued passes to (ie contractors) until they expire and then they must be compliant.

4. There are alternative means of ID that are acceptable. However, anyone enroute to an installation for an event such as a graduation might not have the means to activate them. The acceptable means of ID are:

. United States Passport or United States Passport Card

. Permanent Resident Card/Alien Registration Receipt Card (Form I-551)

. Foreign passport with a temporary (I-551) stamp or temporary (I-551) printed notation on a machine readable immigrant visa

. Employment authorization document that contains a photograph (Form I-766)

. In the case of a nonimmigrant alien authorized to work for a specific employer incident to status, a foreign passport with Form I-94 or Form I-94A bearing the same name as the passport and containing an endorsement of the alien's nonimmigrant status, as long as the endorsement has not yet expired and the proposed employment is not in conflict with any restrictions or limitations identified on the form.

. School identification card with a photograph

. U.S. Military or draft record

. U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Cards

. Transportation Worker Identification Card

. Native American Tribal Document

5. We do not yet have an answer if those Driver's Licenses are only affected for installation access or if they are affected as driver's licenses also. That's a big one...maybe you cant even drive on the post with a DL from one of those 5 states, CAC or not!!!

6. The majority of effort right now focuses on the Federal installations in those 5 states because they are immediately impacted.

7. There are many other states that are on temporary waivers that expire in Oct 2016. Those states must be in compliance by then or they go on the bad list.

8. DA and DOD ID cards will still get you on any installation, regardless of what your Driver's License states.

I see. As I read on another military board, I was worried about parents/family being allowed on TRADOC posts for Basic/IET graduation type stuff. Thank God for the U.S. Passport
