View Full Version : Tonight's debate.
Hopefully, Trump won't fall for the Cruz/Trump battle bait.
The aftermath of this debate could well cement the idea in the pillowbiters' brains that we're serious about getting the weak sisters out of DC.

It will be interesting to see how Christie does now that he is back from the kiddie table.

CNN commentator Ana Navarro just now, talking about Jeb but in a sad general commentary on U.S. politics: "He just needs to have one good line to create one good moment to create some stylistic authority..."
Folks, that is the Maxim Effect (http://professionalsoldiers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45171&highlight=Maxim+Effect) in a nutshell. For people who derive their self-esteem by having more Facebook friends than someone else and who have "trending" as their life goal, it all comes down to sound bites.

Concur with that 100 percent.
Recently, some lib head said ISIS wanted Trump to win. :D
They're skeered, boys.
Donald's numbers went even huger after his "no muslims allowed" blurb.
Jebino wore me out with his reiteration of the same talking points over and over again...and it was ike listening to Bush I and Bush II. Fiorina could have been doing a commercial for HP. Kaisich might consider becoming a TV Evangelist. Ben Carson seemed a bit medicated.
Cruz and Rubio were a bit too scripted for my liking. Paul was bland. Trump did well with his off the cuff style, but bombed on the nuke questions.
Who were the best debaters....Cruz and Rubio.

If your injured in a on the job, call rubio / cruz.
Wolf put Cruz in the corner for a bit, but other than that, he had a pretty good night.

Christie will not be getting a Christmas card from the Obamas, seems that Barry does not like being referred to as a "Feckless Weakling." And they used to be so close.

That was back when Obama had longevity in the White House. Now Christie wants that job, so Obama's usefulness is over. Typical politics.

Kasich' Karate Hands were killing me. I had trouble focusing on what he was saying because they were so distractingly odd. His closing statement was horrible, not a single substantive statement in the whole thing.
I think a deal has been made behind closed doors. Last night I saw Trump and Cruz publicly mending fences and supporting each others' answers. Even when they didn't directly support each other, their answers looked and sounded like they came from the same person. Trump also bombed when he took CNN to task about their questions rather than responding to the one posed. Pure misdirection and it didn't fool anyone.
The great line of the night to me was Cruz saying "I'll build a wall and get Mr. Trump to pay for it".
Bridgegate out of nowhere made Paul look weak. Pure attack and was completely out of context.
Fiorina spent more time blaming Hillary than she did talking about issues.
Rubio came across looking sophomoric. I couldn't help but think of him as the know-it-all college graduate with no experience that wants to tell everyone how it should be done.
Carson is smart, but his presentation makes him appear weak.
Christie's hard line on everything has some value, but he appears unable to compromise on anything, which will make him unappealing to the masses.
Overall I think Trump stays where he is or loses a point or two, Cruz moves up, Carson and Rubio lose some ground and the others will stay the same because everyone has already left them except their hard core supporters.

Pretty good analysis.
Trump and Cruz avoided the trap.
When the public figures out Trump was talking about shutting down the internet on a geographical basis to thwart tangos, the leftist won't have much of a leg to stand on.
I think Trump's numbers will bounce even further, and Cruz will inflate his a tad.
Lookin' like a Trump/Cruz ticket...
The theoretical questions on foreign policy and the nuclear triad were worthless imo, because none the people on stage are going to know what they will do until they are sitting in the throne of power.....on the other hand we already know that HRC's foreign policy equates to BENGHAZI.

I'm thinking more people realize the truth of that than is evident; shame is that the libs who know don't care.

A year's a long time, but I'd think if either Trump or Cruz were gonna be successfully undermined out of the race by the slimeballs, it probably would have already happened.
Carson's in a mudhole, and Bush never got his feet under him.
I'm no longer apprehensive about Bush as a successful dark horse.
Rubio's still hangin'.
The Country's tired of the duplicity and non-action of the slackjaws.

My feeling has been for sometime (several decades) that too many in all walks of life believe that every 4 years they will choose one person and that person will fix everything. Obama is by far the extreme example of this thus far.
The egg head/smart people put an inordinate amount of emphasis on formalities like debate and oratory skills, and following a script.....again Obama wooed the 'educated' masses.
Works call...I gotta get some stuff done so I will finish up later :D

I will send money and support to whoever of the candidates on that stage that win the nomination, except Rand Paul. And why he is still on the main stage, I have no earthly idea.
I think this pool of candidates is good enough that some of them that don't win the nomination will still wind up on a republican president's cabinet.
I will send money and support to whoever of the candidates on that stage that win the nomination, ...
All depends on how they win it. If Trump wins the vote but the GOPe turn the convention into a floor fight and have the establishment elect one of the others I will vote third party.
But if it's above board I will support the one who wins the vote, delegates and nomination.

The problem with a Trump Cruz ticket is the VP is usually a pick to broaden the main candidates appeal. I feel Trump Cruz is not going to put a dent into Hillary's pool and won't draw the more moderate Repubs to the polls. Trump would be smarter picking Bernie Sanders, Kanye West, or... Marco Rubio. I'd pick Tulsi Gabbard if I wanted to win.
A Trump/Cruz is difficult, I can't picture Cruz settling for the VP. That said, and as Dusty commented, a year is a long time for both Trump and Cruz, either one could turn their numbers around. But don't rule out Fiorina, she could solve a lot of republican image problems and would be powerful running mate for Trump or Cruz.
Next summer, they should just take the two right-wingers with the best numbers, match 'em up, and steamroll the pinkos, then clear the objective.

I like her. She isn't getting a lot of traction, and she has some possible baggage from her HP days, but she appears as capable a leader as any person on the stage. If she doesn't win the nomination, she would make a hell of a secretary of state. I would hate to have to debate her.

I concur.
Although as was brought up previously about a Trump/Cruz ticket, I could really see a Trump/Fiorina ticket as being a better deal.

I'm slowly starting to warm to Trump, especially as he dials down the heated rhetoric and is concentrating on solving real issues.
I don't think Cruz as a running mate would be beneficial. (Too many cooks in the kitchen). I think a more powerful ticket for the overall electorate would be Trump/Carson. More of a balanced ticket, and may be why they aren't bickering against each other....much.
That being said, I also have partial selectees for my dream cabinet to support returning to Administration sanity.... some of whom would be retreads.
WH Communications Director: Ben Shapiro
WH Press Sec: Brett Baier
National Security Advisor: KT McFarland
Dept of State: Condi Rice (Retread), or Carli Fiorina
Dept of Defense: Rick Perry, or Tulsi Gabbard (Dem)
Homeland Security: Alan West
Justice: Trey Gowdy
Treasury: Stephen Moore
Energy: Doug Lamborn
Veteran Affairs: Oliver North
Interior: Sarah Palin
EPA: Bobby Jindal
1st SCOTUS Nominee: Andrew Napolitano
Critical Ambassadors:
UN: John Bolton (retread)
ISRAEL: Joe Lieberman
UK: Rep Todd Young
China: John Huntsman (Retread)
Others may opine differently! :munchin
Dept of Defense: Rick Perry, or Tulsi Gabbard (Dem)

You need to lay off the FauxNews channel my friend.
Brett Baier? Andrew Napolitano? KT McFarland? Ad infinitum...
Almost all of them are Fox correspondents or commentators.

Penn,, She may not be right of center
Seems she was at standing rock??
How does an active NG officer do political marches,,
AND give interview as such????
Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, the Hawaii Democrat who served two tours of duty in the Middle East, and who continues to serve as a major in the Army National Guard, will join thousands of veterans next week as they arrive to support Native Americans who are seeking to block construction of an oil pipeline near North Dakota’s Standing Rock Sioux Reservation.
“If my participation in this protest helps send one message, it is this: We must protect our fragile water resources for current and future generations,” says Gabbard, who since her youth has been an environmental activist.
The congresswoman will be part of a December 4-7 “Veterans Stand With Standing Rock” mobilization that proposes to bring military veterans from across the country to North Dakota at the same time that state officials are stepping up efforts to remove pipeline foes from the camp they have organized as part of their Water Protectors movement.

Active duty, guard, or reserve personnel can participate in political activities, rallies, marches, and campaigns as long as they do not do so in an official military capacity, in uniform, and do not use their rank or affiliation with the military while in the course of said activities.

When you say "democratic party right of center" are you using Bernie Sanders as the center point? That's the only way I'd describe Rep. Gabbard's positions as being right of center.
bbh672, point taken, was not connecting the dots in that direction. The assessment was based solely on what was exposed in the Wikipedia bio. That said, coaching, choices, international engagement, she is diffidently driving forward with a plan in place, my assumption is she has aspiration for the executive branch. Therefore, someone to watch, but she certainly in not building a resume of a typical leftist democrat, her service alone separates her from that group....imoo

There are a few current US Representatives that are also Reservist. One drilled at a SOCOM component last year.
From what I can tell, there are 14 Congressmen and 1 Senator currently serving. Was DeSantis the one that drilled? He's served as a legal advisor in the Naval Special Warfare Command.
• Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-AK) - LTC, USMCR, previously active
• Jim Banks (R-IN) - LT, USNR
• Jim Bridenstine (R-OK) - MAJ, OKANG, formerly an active naval aviator, then CDR, USNR
• Doug Collins (R-GA) - Chaplain (Maj.), USAFR
• Ron DeSantis (R-FL) - LCDR, USNR, previously active
• Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) - MAJ, HIARNG
• Duncan D. Hunter (R-TX) - MAJ, USMCR, previously active
• Trent Kelly (R-MS) - COL, MSARNG
• Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) - MAJ, ILANG, previously active
• Ted Lieu (D-CA) - COL, USAFR, previously active
• Tim Murphy (R-PA) - CDR, USNR (MSC)
• Steven Palazzo (R-MS) - NCO in the MSARNG
• Steve Stivers (R-OH) - COL, OHARNG
• Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) - LTC, USAR
• Lee Zeldin (R-NY) - MAJ, USAR, previously active
Rep. Anthony Brown (D-MD) is apparently now a retired COL, USAR. His Wikipedia bio indicates that he is still serving, but the Biographical Directory of the US Congress states "United States Army, 1984-1989; United States Army Reserve, 1989-2014". There are just a few other Senators with prominent military service:
• Tom Carper (D-DE) - retired CDR, USNR, previously active
• Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) - retired LTC, ILARNG, previously active
• Lindsey Graham (R-SC) - retired COL, USAFR, previously active and SCANG
• John McCain (R-AZ) - retired CAPT, USN
• Roger Wicker (R-MS) - retired LTC, USAR
On the House side, there are a few more prominent ones, including two GOs.
• Don Bacon (R-NE) - retired BG, USAF
• Jack Bergman (R-MI) - retired LTG, USMC
• Paul Cook (R-CA) - retired COL, USMC, Vietnam veteran
• Bill Johnson (R-OH) - retired LTC, USAF
• Sam Johnson (R-TX) - retired COL, USAF, Korea vet, Vietnam POW
• Martha McSally (R-AZ) - retired COL, USAF
• Steve Russell (R-OK) - retired LTC, USA
• John Shimkus (R-IL) - retired LTC, USAR, previously active
• Joe Wilson (R-SC) - retired COL, SCARNG
• Ryan Zinke (R-MT) - retired CDR, USN (SEAL)
There are also a few others who were enlisted or junior officers, but not many. The percentage of veterans in Congress is, I think, at or near historical lows.
