I attended the annual military water jump put on for all Vets who obtained their jump wings at 1 Para Bn in Bloemfontein. A day was set aside for re-training on Thursday, and over 300 Vets jumped from a c130 into a dam a few hours drive from the Battalion. We are suffering a drought at present and the nearby dams were too empty. The maximum age for Vets to jump is now 65 and many chaps did their last jump on Friday. It was a hell of a get-together and the camaraderie between the old Paratroopers and Special Forces with the new chaps running the show now was a pleasure to see. Even people who were previously enemies are united by the airborne ethos and get along just fine.

Sounds like a great event.

I've only ever done 1 water jump. I sure liked the low/no impact PLF.

The hangover is still with me Dusty. We are planning an even bigger and better Water jump, shooting competitions, obstacle course races etc for 1 April next year which will be the units 55th Birthday.

Looked like an absolute blast was had by all Mike. Pity I couldn't make the jump due to the last minute rescheduling but next year I'll be there come hell or high (low?) water.

There were a few video clips taken that maybe we could post?

Pity you weren't there Liam, it was really great. One of the best. Why don't you post a video. I saw one where the jumper shooting it had so many twists, I thought he was Chubby Checker. Don't post that one. It will make us the laughing stock of this site.

With the drought we are having, camels are more of a danger. Not the toes mind you, the rest of the beast.

Mike I'll try and get one or two that I saw up. Short clips of some fun retraining mind you. (Ah I see more vids of the actual jump are making their way online)

TS the crocs and hippos tend to scatter. However camel toes in Africa are typically much more dangerous and should be engaged rather selectively. :lifter

I do that by remaining Stateside and leaving the toes on the Dark Continent.

That is the wisest choice if you ask me :D
