I am very thankful that this is a part of my history,,
Never to be repeated...

49 years ago.. Thanksgiving in Nam. Uniforms are a bit starched, so I'm guessing this is a DoD PR film??

Still, for all those who have not had a meal from a field kitchen, delivered in mermite cans..

Enjoy..

PS: Anyone know the hi-speed guys in the video??

One of the name tags was YATES

My first deployment to A-Stan started in October of 2002. By November the CW2 on our sister team (The Mayor of Lwara) had like 4 live turkeys with cages on the base which we fed through the month. We had a plt+ of 82d with cooks attached 😀 That made us a decent Thanksgiving dinner!

I don't know if any of you remember the Prime Chance/Ernest Will operation back in the late 80s when Pres Reagan US-flagged the tankers that were being attacked by Iran. There were two barges the Hercules and Windbrown, sovereign US territory. These were converted oil platforms that had two flight decks that were used to launch TF-180 birds in the Persian Gulf. I did two of these 60-day rotations as the flight medic (Art Hooper as combat swimmer) on one of the CSAR birds that followed offset behind the little birds. All of our meals were cooked by Pakistanis from Spinneys Corp (out of London). The food was good, but unfortunately these guys put curry on everything (veggies, pancakes, pound cake, etc.) and of course on Thanksgiving Day on the turkeys, stuffing, and the lobster (courtesy of the SEAL team on board).

They treated us well, and it brings back fond memories, but I'll never eat curry again.

I spent a Thanksgiving in Peshawar, courtesy of OP SALAAM. I brought 2 turkeys from the commissary at the AmEmb in Islamabad to the teams there. The cooks wanted to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving meal for us. Curried turkey is the absolute worst. I too haven't touched curry since.
