The name of the individual is a Carlos Toro.

He currently lives in Puerto Rico. and claims to have been a Vietnam-era 5th Grouper.

He is a captain in the Civil Air Patrol there. As an aside, I'm told by a trusted contact in PR that when this guy was asked for his DD214, he did not produce it.

Thanks.

Note: My contact in PR is a Israel-trained Krav Maga instructor (we've known each other since we were kids) who comes into contact with quite a few "claimants" of quite a lot of stuff. So, occasionally, he sends inquiries my way.

He doesn't appear in any of Steve Sherman's books.

Kinda' hard to be a "Vietnam-era 5th Grouper" and not to have served in Vietnam.

But is this one of those "implying" cases?

The National Defense Service Medal was still being issued to troops enlisting in 1974 so technically I was a "Vietnam-era 5th Grouper" but I would never state my service that way as it would imply, without further clarification, I might have served in VN.

Implying or lying. A few questions need to be asked.....

Almost,, The 5th rotated back in March 1971 and assumed the HC of the 6th. The 5th continued with boots in VN until 1975,,

So there could be, some wiggle room??

But I agree,, IMPLYING is not good JuJu..
