The Most Conservative And Most Liberal Cities In America
Forbes, 2015

New York City may be less liberal than you thought.

At least according to The Economist, which pulled data from an MIT study on how city governments reflect their constituents’ politics to produce a ranking of cities with populations of over 250,000. As The Economist asked (quite British-ly), “Would people expect Washington, DC, to come second, ahead of Seattle (where it is legal to smoke pot) or the Democratic stronghold of Boston?”

As several articles have pointed out, though, the real takeaway was first called out by the PEW Research Center and then elaborated on by Vox: the most conservative cities are skewed toward being more liberal than one might expect. The how-much-wood-could-a-woodchuck-chuck way to say this is: the most conservative cities are not as conservative as the most liberal cities are liberal.

Conservative:

10 - Aurora, CO
9 - Tulsa, OK
8 - Omaha, NE
7 - Anaheim, CA
6 - Arlington, TX
5 - Jacksonville, FL
4 - Colorado Springs, CO
3 - Virginia Beach, VA
2 - Oklahoma City, OK
1 - Mesa, AZ

Liberal:

10 - Baltimore, MD
9 - Buffalo, NY
8 - New York City, NY
7 - Detroit, MI
6 - Minneapolis, MN
5 - Boston, MA
4 - Oakland, CA
3 - Seattle, WA
2 - Washington, DC
1 - San Francisco, CA

Sure would be interesting to juxtapose violent crime rates, gun related deaths, median/mean household incomes, and median/mean education levels onto that list.

Now let's see how many of the same places are gun free zones, drug zones, and what about murder rates? I'm betting those "liberal" cities take the prize too.

And thanks, I'm moving to Mesa.

I just visited Colorado Springs.

What a cool place with great access to some awesome outdoors.

I'm surprised to see Anaheim in CA as most conservative.

Is it like a GOP FOB?

The folks in "Little Seattle" Iowa City,Iowa are not very happy that they are not on that list.

If only by comparison, every city ><~= 250,000 just outside Seattle is by a majority conservative.

Really surprised that Portland, OR isn't on the list. I think it's more liberal than Seattle.

I'm surprised Portland didn't make the list as well. I lived there for half a year and I couldn't come home fast enough.

The county I live in now is conservative as far as California goes, but I've noticed an increase in a particular bumper sticker which says 'Another Placer County Democrat' , which is disheartening. Placer County is a part of the thoroughfare from the Bay Area to Lake Tahoe so it's easy to get caught in Friday afternoon Tahoe traffic I don't plan my day right, which is really cool because I love to be stuck in traffic with Prius's adorned with Che and Obama stickers. I think a lot of people from the Bay Area find Placer County appealing because it's unlike city living, so the increase of Placer County Democrats is not surprising.

inre The Economist, My son subscribes to it and forwards me many articles. Some I agree with some I SMH at.

I found from my limited research that they are a British company that is owned by FT (ties to Russia) and Pearson, of which Kadafi's son once owned more than 2,000,000 shares.

Do British "conservatives" think along the same lines as American conservatives?

I've seen articles by them that support Nobamacare and a much higher minimum wage.

Some of what I've seen put out by them doesn't seem what I would consider conservative.
