Obama to nominate first openly gay service secretary to lead the Army

"President Obama, in a historic first for the Pentagon, has chosen to nominate Eric Fanning to lead the Army, a move that would make him the first openly gay civilian secretary of one of the military services.
Fanning’s nomination is the latest in a series of actions taken by the administration to advance the rights of gays and lesbians throughout the federal government. The Obama administration has overhauled internal policies to provide benefits to same-sex partners, appointed gay men and lesbians to the executive branch and the federal bench and ended the 18-year ban on gays serving openly in the military..."
Let me guess. He's going to have an agenda - and not one about war fighting.
Yep...apparently our national defense is a joke to this administration. Obama is going scorched earth in the final year of his reign of terror!

There is no agenda, like it or leave it...they don't care.

It's probably actually because the guy is the best candidate for the job. He doesn't look kinda young or anything:rolleyes:
I don't like bashing the president, or the office, but Damn am I proud I didn't vote for that guy...
Fanning has been an upper-echelons DOD fixture for a long time. He was DepUnderSec Navy, Acting Sec AF, the SecDef's COS and considered one of his closest advisors, and this current move was foreseen when he became the Acting UnderSec Army in July and SecArmy McHugh announced he would be leaving in November.

I stand corrected. I should of googled the guy before I made the comment. Otoh the very fact that we're hearing about this guys orientation speaks to the climate of anti-judeo/christian direction this country is headed in.

No prior service should preclude nomination from any military related position. Otherwise I guess he's qualified. Why put his homosexuality out front? Did they announce the last guy was hetero?
Is he the cause of the cadets having to wear CMFM pumps for a day to build empathy for women or transgender so or whatever?
Before this thread takes an even sharper turn, I would point out that W. Scott Thompson, a civilian who played a small but important role in the renewal of the armed services during the Reagan Era is gay. Things being what they were, he lived a closeted life. One can only imagine how much more he could have done for his country and the GOP had he not needed to worry about the backlash of "coming out."
@Nurse Tim, MOO, you should seek to answer your own questions from time to time rather than just posting them.

I'll take that "sharper" turn. All this "appointee" is an Army bashing and lashing out of the current liberal/socialist agenda.
It's nothing different than yelling form the roof tops, "I appointed a fag as your new commander and there's nothing you can do about it."
Otherwise like W. Scott Thompson, very few folks would know and really don't care.
So tell us Sigaba, what's the purpose (other than political) of informing the world the Eric Fanning takes it in the butt?
I'm not "openly" anything so do I need to start informing the world I like to (insert anything here cause no one cares) while having sex?
All obama and his ilk are doing is rubbing it in our faces. We will bow to the 1%, this is their world however deviant they may be. Any act against or intolerance of will be dealt with by a fine or prison term, no matter what your ideals.
2016 can't come fast enough. I can't wait for all the convicted felons obama pardons just before he leaves office.

On the brighter side - that would create a "target rich" environment. ;)

What's even funnier is the Harvard educated low IQ moron that appointed him and the millions that voted for him. Talk about a joke.
The headlines read "gay sec Def " not highly qualified person appointed. IMHO it does a disservice to his accomplishments with an announcement like that. like it or not they filled the alt with a gay that was qualified not a qualified guy that happens to be gay.
It is a political agenda that was filled not get the best person for the job. like it or not that is the no shit truth of the matter.
The "headlines" came from the press, not the White House.
This is what the White House said:
President Obama Announces More Key Administration Posts
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, President Barack Obama announced his intent to nominate the following individuals to key Administration posts:
{Alphabetical listing of names and posts}
President Obama said, “These fine public servants bring a depth of experience and tremendous dedication to their important roles. I look forward to working with them.”

Based upon what is being said about the nomination and UnderSec Fanning, I think there are many 'agendas' being pursued out there.
Richard
Yeah it sucks, but as Richard said the "G's" statements make no mention of his gayness.

Secretary of Defense Ash Carter Statement on the Nomination of Eric Fanning to be Secretary of the Army
"Today, I want to congratulate Eric Fanning for his nomination to be the next secretary of the Army. President Obama has made an excellent choice, and I hope for a quick Senate confirmation.
"Eric served as my first chief of staff at the Pentagon, and it has been a privilege over the course of my career to work alongside him and watch him develop into one of our country's most knowledgeable, dedicated, and experienced public servants. I know he will strengthen our Army, build on its best traditions, and prepare our ground forces to confront a new generation of challenges."

Its a political move as always.
Confirm an unqualified person who is selected to be in the position in order to further nudge the military wing of the population into believing in the "emasculation" of America.........
Or be called a bunch of "right wing bigot homophobes"
How can the dictator in chief lose?
Oh yeah.......he doesn't.
He also supports allowing openly transgender persons to serve in the military...
...so THAT ought to be great to watch happen.
The 2016 general election may well be little more than a referendum on the fate of Americas moral conscience.
...not that it matters, because people have feeling and those feeling are important so vote early, vote often.

Maybe if Hillary can pull out the win, she will further decimate the Military by offering a 15 year retirement.
God knows I would bite, given that bait.
Sure is nice to know that our ammo allocation this upcoming quarter is about 25% of last years.

Selective Service now (wait NOW) for all military aged citizens.
I'm looking forward to this being implemented, since the latest in policy and policymakers not only makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish between genders, but is making up new ones to boot.

Just because this career bureaucrat has been on the KD path to Secretary of the Army for the last 6 years and 243 days doesn't negate the concerns people have over his nomination. The Congressman who took over for him as Acting Undersecretary was a decorated Army veteran with OIF combat experience who seems to hold similar FP opinions to this administration. It seems most civilian leaders of our Armed Forces these days have concerns other than warfighting capability, as evidenced by Mabus' current outspoken agenda with the Navy.
We should give this man a chance to prove himself before denouncing the nomination, but I cannot argue with the skepticism coming from my peers right now.

This is not a popular opinion, but I own it.
I think gays should be in the military. If they choose the lifestyle, and can otherwise meet mental and physical requirements, they should be welcomed.
For those who cannot or will not comport themselves appropriately, there exists the Manual of Courts Martial which can address those individuals.
My core belief is that having them inside the tent, makes it one more person who can bleed instead of me. Subsequently, if they can bleed, then they should be given that opportunity. As one with 2 PH, I would gladly give it to a gay who was doing what I was doing. I do not see anything different from any other ethnic soldier. Like I said earlier there is always the Manual for Courts Martial.
We don't have to like the behavior. We don't have to socialize with them. However, if they meet the needs of the military and can separate their lifestyle within the accepted norm of the military, they should be accepted as equals whether soldier, sailor, marine or airman.

No, they want to push their deviant lifestyle choices in our faces and laugh that we now bow to the 1%.
I don't care if they screw goats, I don't really care what they do, I don't want to hear about it. I've never gone around and told people I was openly hetro...... not something normal folks think about.
I don't care if he's gay, I don't care if he likes it in the butt, I don't care if he likes to wear women's dresses and chase Shetland ponies, I don't care and you can keep it to yourself. If you can't keep it to yourself I'll be the first one to call you a nasty name and force you from my personal space by all means necessary.
