I know,, preaching to the choir,, but I was thinking the web crawlers might help distribution??

berry wants a $15 min wage,, well almost,, but not really.. He just sign off on a BIG 1.3% wage hike for all service members.

Problem is that's not even close to his $15 promise..

Attached is the 2015 pay scale for all military personnel in pay grades E1 thru 2nd Lt.

As most service members work around the clock 24/7 a good chunk of their time,, I took the number 60hr a week as a fair average,,

That works out to $3900 @ month.

You need to be in the service for quit a while before you get to the $15 STARTING MIN berry is promising..

I took the liberty of hi-lighting the point at which you need to cross to get MINIMUM STARTING wage.

1)you need to attain the rank of E7, after 12 years to make minimum wage

2)all ranks under E7 will NEVER make berry's minimum wage

Now,, Who deserves the $15 minimum wages

1)The gay/gal who "do you want fry's with your bugger"??

2)The person that has to write their own obituary and last will & testament before they go to work.

I didn't try to muddy it out with hazardous duty pay or other allowances..

PS:

As of 2015 there is about 1.14 enlisted active duty personal.

As of 2015 there are 3.7 million fast food employees.

$15 x 60 hr = $900 x 4 weeks = $3600

Let's flesh this out some. What is the civilian equivalent of an E6 over 14 or an E7 over 8?

Then comparable monthly salary for those professions?

An E7-E8 would anomaly have the same budget and personnel responsibilities as a store manager at Micky D's(44K) or assistant manager at Wally-World (50k), less incoming and medevac.

I use the long formula to smooth wks to months.

((60*15)*52)/12 = 3900

I made no attempt to compare 1 to 1 as bugger flippers don't do any rucking..

A month is 4 -1/3 weeks. $15 x 60 hrs = $900 x 4 -1/3 was = $3900.

How much pension would a 38 year old burger flipper expect when retiring with 20 years on the job?

I suspect that your average franchise holder says, "I have 12 jobs at $8 an hour, and no jobs at $15 per hour. Now where is that robot burger flipper brochure?"

No guess,, but if McD's are like most companies, they have a 401K plan and match for every dollar the employee contributes, to some level. It's employee funded and the funds are selected by the employee..

Other than federal and union retirement plans, there are very few traditional retirement plan left.

Depends on how wisely he conducted his affairs.
It's possible to build your own future.

My best friend dropped out of college, bummed around for awhile, and then took an entry level job at Target near minimum wage at age 22.

He eventually bought a house with his brother and took on renters.
In time, he invested, started side businesses, bought real estate, etc., and lived a frugal lifestyle.

He was a millionaire by the age of 40.
He still works as an hourly employee at Target.

I find it hard to believe that anyone with a smidgen of talent and initiative would still be in an entry level position after 20 years of work.

Kind of like asking what pension an E-2 over 20 would receive.

A burger flipper would be equal to a private up to specialist. Privates through specialists don't make it to 20 based on up or out.

How much pension would a 38 year old burger flipper expect when retiring with 20 years on the job?

How many times in his career would the burger flipper be required to move his entire family to a different state or overseas? How many times would the burger flipper be sent away from his family for a month or much longer (exercises or deployment)? How many 24 hour shifts would the burger flipper have to work in his career? How often during his career would the burger flipper face an 'up or out' promotion schema? How many substantially different jobs would the burger flipper hold during his time with the franchise?

The above doesn't even touch upon the larger issue of getting injured, permanently maimed or killed.

Same problem with legislation like the Dream Act - comparing a couple years of college to a couple years service in the military is IMO not equivalent.

College students go to parties, the library and football games.

The military goes on field training exercises and to war.

I wonder how PFC Snuffy applies for, and gets his overtime pay when he is required to work beyond a 40 hour week?

...these same social engineering shit bags want to keep giving the baby factories increasingly easy access to taxpayer funded medical care while service members are increasingly being asked to foot co-pays and other ankle biter fees.

...and has anyone tried to get care at Clarke Clinic lately?

I forget, but did we (AD military members) get time and a half when working holidays, such as Labor Day, Thanksgiving, MLK day, etc. ? I do remember standing in a tower while stationed in West Germany, freezing my ass off, on Christmas Day.

I forget, but were we able to adjust our shifts/duties around school schedules, kids schedules (scholastic, sports, extra curricular, etc.) on a regular basis ?

I forget, did we get overtime (time and a half) after working 40 hours a week?

I don't remember being able to do/get any of the above.
I was on AD a long time ago, maybe times have changed.

I agree with everything being said here. In all fainess though, nobody is mentioning all the free time off. Yea, I know. Here are some examples; three and four day weekends that begin at 1500, comp days for 24 hour duty (CQ, SDNCO, etc), time off in the middle of the day for various appointments on base, time off in the middle of the day to renew liscence plates, etc. Leaving work at 1500 on most days in garrison (Not for the staff guys), going to the gym in the middle of the day, etc.

I get it. In my twenty year career I have deployed many times, written several wills, been cold, hot, hungry, dehydrated, exhausted, etc. Have been separated from my family for extended periods. I get it.

IMHO, while my pay and compensation was never enough to get rich on, I think I made out ok, or at least better than I expected when I came joined.

I think this government mandated $15 an hour is wrong and should be set by the market not the government, but I also think most soldiers have it pretty good.

TRDid you write Iacocca's proposal to the UAW for him back in the 80's?

During my time in uniform I have been "fucked over" way more times than I have enjoyed this thing known as "all the free time off"
...up to and including LOSING leave time because I didn't get a chance to use it during the year.

My "extra" free time has always been delivered to me printed on the back of a WonkaBar golden ticket, delivered by a bigfoot riding a unicorn.

“Unfortunately, the real minimum wage is always zero, regardless of the laws, and that is the wage that many workers receive in the wake of the creation or escalation of a government-mandated minimum wage, because they lose their jobs or fail to find jobs when they enter the labor force. Making it illegal to pay less than a given amount does not make a worker’s productivity worth that amount—and, if it is not, that worker is unlikely to be employed.”

So, we have run almost all of the manufacturing jobs out of this country, and now we are going to kill off most of the service industry jobs as well.

What will the real unemployment rate be after this plan is implemented?

All part of the plan to turn us I to a third world country second to all. Money equals power so if you get the whole country depandat on the govt you stay in power. Stalin would be proud.Precisely. Increase the number of the unweaned. How will the teat cope? The power of the (printing) press; they will need to do a currency redesign for all the extra 0's necessary on the bills.

For some time oil field jobs which paid well more than $15/hr couldn't find workers.
Had to regularly pass piss tests for the jobs...
