US daredevil Dean Potter dies during flying stunt

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-32776686

"Dean Potter - one of America's best known extreme athletes - has been killed during a stunt in California.

The 43-year-old died while attempting a wingsuit flight from the 7,500 ft (2,286m) Taft Point promontory in Yosemite National Park, a park spokesman said.

Basejumper Graham Hunt also died as they attempted to fly at high speed through a narrow gap in the skyline...."

Can't really think of much to say other than he went out doing what he loved.

Continually poke your finger in the eye of fate & eventually you will meet fate.

Remember Photographer Ivan Lester McGuire's jump on April.5,1988, in NC. We had our share of fun with it down on Gruber Road at the time but very sad stuff ( will not post that video here).
They will undoubtedly find their Go Pros at some point. Frankly I'm not into drones, base jumping, hang gliding in my National Parks...

Everything has an opportunity cost. When you are constantly pushing things to the edge, eventually you'll go over it. While unfortunate, these were grown men who knew the risks involved in what they were doing.

This is the great thing about America: Freedom and choices. As long as you're not hurting anybody else, go for it. Personally, at my age, I don't see me putting on a wing suit or jumping off of tall things. But I like knowing that I live in a land where I could choose to do that if I wanted to.

Picked his poison for sure and that ain't bad.

The bad part, as all MFF guys know, is he knew it was a miss before impact...when in a glide you know. Not a fkin thing you can do about it at that point. Committed.

That has got to suck so bad.

Anybody else notice how close the word skydiving sounds to skydying?

Base jumping and especially illegal base jumping has nothing to do with skydiving.

Dean Potter just took life for granite...... ;)
