Earth Day co-founder killed, composted girlfriend

Ira Einhorn was on stage hosting the first Earth Day event at the Fairmount Park in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970. Seven years later, police raided his closet and found the "composted" body of his ex-girlfriend inside a trunk.

A self-proclaimed environmental activist, Einhorn made a name for himself among ecological groups during the 1960s and '70s by taking on the role of a tie-dye-wearing ecological guru and Philadelphia’s head hippie. With his long beard and gap-toothed smile, Einhorn — who nicknamed himself "Unicorn" because his German-Jewish last name translates to "one horn" —advocated flower power, peace and free love to his fellow students at the University of Pennsylvania. He also claimed to have helped found Earth Day.

At least he composted her.

ETA: No sooner did I post that link than NBC pulled it. Here's the Daily Caller post: http://dailycaller.com/2015/04/22/flashback-1977-earth-day-co-founder-composts-dead-girlfriend/

Also the birthday of one Vladimir I. Lenin.

The first Earth Day was on the 100th anniversary of Lenin's birth.

Coincidence?

I think not.

And notice who was front-and-center at the "Earth Charter". Yep. Ol' Mikhail Gorbachov - and Maurice Strong. Co-incidence? I didn't think so either.

Yesterday, one of the assistant teachers at my daughter's pre-school sent the kids home with plastic ziploc baggies full of green leaves that the kids had torn off the shrubs near the playground. Seriously. Happy Earth Day, right? I asked her if she was confused and thought it was 4/20. She said, "What's that?".

Do any of you recall any of these apocalyptic predictions (http://www.aei.org/publication/18-spectacularly-wrong-apocalyptic-predictions-made-around-the-time-of-the-first-earth-day-in-1970-expect-more-this-year-2/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+aei-ideas%2Fcarpe-diem+%28AEIdeas+%C2%BB+Carpe+Diem%29)?

How accurate were the predictions made around the time of the first Earth Day in 1970? The answer: “The prophets of doom were not simply wrong, but spectacularly wrong,” according to Bailey. Here are 18 examples of the spectacularly wrong predictions made around 1970 when the “green holy day” (aka Earth Day) started:

1. Harvard biologist George Wald estimated that “civilization will end within 15 or 30 years unless immediate action is taken against problems facing mankind.”

2. “We are in an environmental crisis which threatens the survival of this nation, and of the world as a suitable place of human habitation,” wrote Washington University biologist Barry Commoner in the Earth Day issue of the scholarly journal Environment.

3. The day after the first Earth Day, the New York Times editorial page warned, “Man must stop pollution and conserve his resources, not merely to enhance existence but to save the race from intolerable deterioration and possible extinction.”

4. “Population will inevitably and completely outstrip whatever small increases in food supplies we make,” Paul Ehrlich confidently declared in the April 1970 Mademoiselle. “The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”

5. “Most of the people who are going to die in the greatest cataclysm in the history of man have already been born,” wrote Paul Ehrlich in a 1969 essay titled “Eco-Catastrophe! “By…[1975] some experts feel that food shortages will have escalated the present level of world hunger and starvation into famines of unbelievable proportions. Other experts, more optimistic, think the ultimate food-population collision will not occur until the decade of the 1980s.”

For earth day a teacher had a bunch of kids rip up a shrub.
...happy earth day - now, everybody go pull some leaves off a bush.

awesome awesome awesome

edited to add....

“The death rate will increase until at least 100-200 million people per year will be starving to death during the next ten years.”

These are the same idiots that rail against genetically engineered food as "Frankenstein food" when scientists find ways to use science to feed hungry people.

Here is a shout out to all of the naturalists supporting earth day......

Interesting commentary on Earth Day.

Commentary: No coincidence Earth Day is Lenin’s birthday

April 22 is Earth Day. Very appropriately, and not by any means coincidentally, Earth Day is celebrated on the birthday of the socialist tyrant Vladimir Lenin.

It’s appropriate that the two are celebrated on the same day, because there is no relevant difference between the socialist and environmentalist agendas in this country. Saving the environment is simply a euphemism for eviscerating the rights of property owners and creating a dictatorship...

...So, if you’ve ever wondered why it seems that reasonable people have lost the ability to reach reasonable compromises, look to the environmentalists for your answer. That is the lesson to be learned on Earth Day.

Yes.

Example number 1 is the ridiculous opposition to Golden Rice. It has been engineered to grow very well in areas where beta-corotine is very low in diet leading to high rates of childhood blindness. Golden Rice can provide this missing nutrient greatly reducing or eliminating malnourishment related blindness.

But it is a GMO so well fed liberals with access to great healthcare have to oppose it.

Funny how that works isn't it; the self-righteous zealously demanding that we all see things their way.

To paraphrase Penn Jillette's comments on liberal opposition to genetically engineered foods...
Unless you and your family are starving, SHUT THE FUCK UP.

However, in light of my efforts to turn over a new leaf before The Honorable Hillary R. Clinton assumes power and to avoid the wrath of her secret police when the purge begins...
...fuck those hungry people.

Earth day is all about loving mother earth and GMO's are nothing more than another example of the corporate funded, consumer driven poison that only makes the 1% even richer as they use their Frankenstein like manipulation of mother earth for their own evil profit motives.
A hungry person that would consume GMO would only do so under the forced oppression their capitalist corporate masters.

Now, go eat your Frankenstein rice you capitalist brainwashed sheep......

You may have noticed that Paul Ehrlich was behind most of those "dire warnings", and yet, he has lived long and prospered.

I have fun digging up old science articles. Remember this (http://denisdutton.com/newsweek_coolingworld.pdf) from the 70's?

Btw, Billy - please write children's books. I'll illustrate them for free.

My first children's book will be "Heather Has Two Senators"
The story will be about a child named Heather, raised by two US Senators: the Junior Senator from her home state, Jane, who gave birth to her after a test-tube insemination gone wrong and the Senior same-sex Senator from her home state, Kate.

My second book will be titled, “Daddy’s Roommate”
It will be about a young boy whose divorced, conservative father now lives with his ultra-liberal girlfriend and will deal with the subject of viral, unproductive partisan politics.

And you need to get Samuel Jackson to do the audiobook, too. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sOA_U3-HOs)
