Army ROTC program allegedly pressured cadets to walk in high heels for ASU event:

Army ROTC cadets are complaining on message boards that they were pressured to walk in high heels on Monday for an Arizona State University campus event designed to raise awareness of sexual violence against women.

The Army openly encouraged participating in April’s “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” events in 2014, but now it appears as though ROTC candidates at ASU were faced with a volunteer event that became mandatory.

“Attendance is mandatory and if we miss it we get a negative counseling and a ‘does not support the battalion sharp/EO mission’ on our CDT OER for getting the branch we want. So I just spent $16 on a pair of high heels that I have to spray paint red later on only to throw them in the trash after about 300 of us embarrass the U.S. Army tomorrow,” one anonymous cadet wrote on the social media sharing website Imgr, IJReview reported Monday.

I guess there's been an update to AR 670-1.

Seeing the title I first checked if this thread was in the comedy zone as a satire article, sadly and honestly not surprising anymore it wasn't...

So how the hell does cross dressing help raise awareness of sexual violence?!

Next stop, female cadets are "volunteered" to take out the trash.

On the flip side, the cadets were given an opportunity to explore their feminine side, you never know where the next Ru Paul is going to come from.

Personally, I'd like to get my hands on the misogynistic bastard who invented high heels! :D

Oh..I don't know. The right shoe coordinated with a kicky off-the-shoulder evening gown just makes me feel "majestic". :D

Hey - it's the new Army.

We have certainly come a long way.....

We use to be tarred and feathered if we were seen in our BDU's off base except to go from our vehicle to our residence.

I know nothing about ROTC rules and regs, but I have a feeling that these guys were set up to be compromised. They were threatened with severe discipline if they refused yet, when those pictures hit the internet, they will be haunted by them once commissioned. It's far better to be a STRAC PFC than a humiliated LT.

It's Army wide. The COS here had the sense to call BS and refuse to make us do it. ALTHOUGH.... I had to go and run in the 5K SHARP awareness run at 0-dark-thirty this morning. My last run in the Army.

and...we are supposed to sign a pledge later on that states I will not rape or sexually harrass anyone. I'm not signing THAT either. I've done OK in my 36 years so far, not going to make any promises though....

Not when you're attending a private school and ROTC is the only thing standing between you and six figures of student loan debt.

Was it this bullshit?

"As a proud member of the United States Army,
I pledge to be a force behind the fight
to eliminate Sexual Harassment and Sexual Assault
from our community.

I will have the PERSONAL COURAGE to INTERVENE-
no matter the time or place.
I will ACT decisively to stand up and protect my fellow Soldiers
from all forms of sexually offensive and abusive behavior.
I will be MOTIVATED by my ARMY VALUES to remain a constant
force in the fight to PROTECT MY TEAM!"

I often wonder if the people pushing this nonsense at the highest levels really like the taste of the shit out coming out of their mouth - or if they realize it's stupid and they're just trying to protect themselves.

When I was working ROTC, I was the guy who would've stood up to this.
I have never been in favor of forcing soldiers to purchase anything they are required to have, from gear to uniforms to "mandatory events"

High heels are terrible for the joints of your feet, knees and low back. They also alter the mechanics of the muscles of the lower extremities and increase the risk of early fatigue and strain injuries.

Promoting the use of such footwear using a population who have a high rate of lower extremity issues as a result of their occupation.

Genius!

Plus it's ghey....

LMAO...everyone seems to have a good time, except that guy at the right. He seems to be thinking "what have I gotten myself into...."

As long as this cadets-in-stillettos campaign exposes the future Bradley-turned-Chelsea, then it's worth it. Also, it's a good early training for those who will join SMU in the future and will have to dress/walk/act like a female for successful surveillance, infiltration, etc. Hey, what's with that skeptical look? The Sayeret Matkal did this to great effect.

...but I hope I would have the moral courage today that I had when I was a young, hard-hitting Sergeant. I would have refused to obey the order on the grounds that it was a unlawful order because it 1)required me to violate US Army regulations on wearing of the uniform; 2) was using the uniform to make a political or social statement; 3) was engineered to force me to submit to degrading treatment or behavior; and 4) represented a condition where, if I saw this being performed by other service members, I would be required to make a corrective action...not emulate the behavior.

It's a moral courage thing...something these women apparently cannot understand and, as such, have no business training or mentoring leaders.
