As senior surviving Son Tay Raider, Dan was very helpful and informative in putting together Col. Bud Sydnor's nomination for DMOR. He was a great guy and one of our brightest stars.

Rest in Peace, Dan!

Gents, here's a message that was sent out by Biff Hadden, president of the Ft. Benning Chapter 59 SFA regarding the arrangements for Dan's wake, funeral, and burial.

To All:

Subject: Funeral for MAJ (Ret) Dan Turner

For those who don’t know, Dan Turner was a Retired Special Forces Officer who was part of the Son Tay Raid into North Vietnam in late 1970 attempting to rescue American Prisoners of War.

We have been talking with the family since Monday. The following are the Families Schedule to Honor this Friend to all of us.

The Wake will be Saturday April 11, 2015 6-8 pm, with visitation at McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd Columbus, GA 31907.
The Funeral Service will be Sunday April 12, 2015 2pm at Christ Community Church 4078 Milgen Road Columbus, GA 31907.
There will be a Reception at the Cataula, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sunday, following the Funeral.
Monday April 13, 2015, around 10:30am he will depart from McMullen Funeral Home and will be taken north to be laid to rest at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, GA 30114. The burial will take place at 2pm. Many of his Motorcycle Riders will be travelling along.
SF are encouraged to wear their Green Beret or Green SF Jacket.
The family encourages his friends to help celebrate the life of a true warrior that was loved, respected, and will always be remembered.

For those desiring to make contributions, it is the wish of the family that these be made either to the SFA “Georgia” Chapter 59 Scholarship Fund, or the Green Beret Foundation, in his honor.

Please help pass the word.

Very respectfully,
Biff Hadden
President, Chapter 59 SFA

Thanx for your time.

Scott

Just read this.

Very sad. My condolences to his family

I knew Dan as a civil servant here at Benning and then following his retirement.

I used to get emails from him re SFA meetings and other topics all the time and then they stopped.

Now, I know why.
