Yeah, retirement and health care.

Any savings is taken straight out of the pocket of future soldiers.

Hmmm..... no mention of no more $50 toilet seats, or planes, boats, ships, tanks, etc that no one asked for. No, let's cut retirement and health.

Fuck them all.

Well damnit....I wrote this long post (rant) about the bullshit comparisons between statements like this:

"Currently, qualified retirees receive a pension that is 50 percent of their base pay – which is far more than private sector workers receive even under a defined benefit system."

And I went on a tirade about fraud, waste, and abuse, referencing not only reckless spending and programs such as the C27J (from assembly line to mothballs).

And wrapped up with a list of examples of where Congress orders shit in the budget that DOD doesn't want, yet are forced to buy. (http://www.military.com/daily-news/2015/01/28/pentagon-tells-congress-to-stop-buying-equipment-it-doesnt-need.html)

But....somehow it disappeared, and I lost my motivation to get back on my soapbox!

"Currently, qualified retirees receive a pension that is 50 percent of their base pay – which is far more than private sector workers receive even under a defined benefit system."

No comparison between the sacrifice that most service members make and the public in general. Yet they consistently get away with making that comparison.

In terms of belt tightening down the road, however, McCain and others have begun eyeing the military’s gold-plated retirement and health care programs. With military health care and retirement costs skyrocketing, McCain says reforming the compensation system is unavoidable – and might actually attract more people into the military.

Too bad we the people have no power to turn our gaze on their (Congress) retirement and health care and choose that for trimming.
