The threat of the FBI's counterterrorism division was blunt about the threat here at home from Americans who've trained with terrorist groups like ISIS overseas: "We don't have it under control."
I have a few ideas on how to solve this problem but they're rather draconian. :D

If the FBI didn't waste manpoer in places like Ferguson, MO and Chicago maybe they could handle this threat. I don't think thier budget should be increased.

The greatest danger here will be from AD's as everybody scrambles to make the first IS kill on home ground.

Yes, if they pull their current TTP in Iraq and Syria dressed like those two clowns in the picture then the medical examiner is going to have a field day.
However, if their online group successfully spot, assess, recruit, and radicalize the vulnerable population here, then think of Boston bombing mixed with DC sniper and NY stabbing. It won't be spectacular like 9/11, but enough to get freedom eroded more and more. Decentralized, network structure works great in recruiting and mobilizing resources, but worse than hierarchy in security and strategic coherence (Tucker, 2008). ISIS/AQ media branch will definitely explot event like this http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/02/13/muslim-students-funeral/23337467/ for recruitment and radicalization here. A benign, but very real threat IMHOO

...I'd opine that any nations government is a bigger existential threat to the freedom of its citizens than the most powerful of enemy nations.
The enemy uses brute force; the government uses Overtons Window.
This morning on Fox News Live, they hosted former Green Beret, Bob Collins, who spoke very eloquently about how Isis is such a threat to the Dams of Afghanistan's inner mainframe. He also spoke his ideas about why the indig soldiers were seeming to back down! And how O needs to bring it on in this fight and not waste time!
Great interview, IMHO!:lifter
