"...Eatman has been looking forward to the ceremony, as well as connecting with other World War II veterans, Kelley said.
Kelley will be traveling with his grandfather, who has also received a Purple Heart, to Raleigh next week for the French Legion of Honor ceremony.
"I'm impressed that the French are making such a great effort to ensure these guys are getting the recognition due to them from their country," Kelley said. "This is France coming together and saying, 'We've missed a lot of guys. We need to get it to guys that deserve it.'"
Other veterans who will receive the French Legion of Honor medal are Staff Sgt. Fernnie C. Letchworth, Headquarters Battery, 602nd Glider Artillery Battalion; Sgt. James D. Seitzer, Company E 324th Infantry Regiment, 44th Infantry Division; Seaman 1st Class Julien G. Highsmith, Landing Ship Tank 503; Pfc. Charles Di Maria, Battery C, 633rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion; Pfc. James M. Hamby, Headquarters Battery, 29th Field Artillery Battalion; and Pfc. Donald R. Judd, 36th Infantry Division...."
Well earned Trooper.
