Great story.

I had no idea he lived in Philadelphia.

I wonder what his neighbors knew of SSGT Guarnere?

"...his family had placed the house on the market."

I find it sad that his family woud do that without removing the personal memorabilia of this decorated veteran. :(

My father's WW2 uniform hangs in the closet next to my Class A and Dress Blue uniforms, and the shadow boxes of awards, decorations, and unit insignia of my father and father-in-law are on the wall next to my desk. They will go to my sons one day, and I hope they treat them with greater respect for what their grandfather's did than Wild Bill's kin did with his.

May Wild Bill rest in peace.

Not to be too nosy but...do you have a picture of it? I'd love to see it! :o

I agree, Richard.

How you complain when you didn't even care enough to clean the place out of memorabilia and family heirlooms before calling in the realtors?

Our realtor suggested that we keep the house furnished as long as we could when showing. It was probably the same in this case since the family was local.

Pop's uniform.

He was finishing his "A" schooling when the attack on Pearl Harbor occurred and a month later was in Australia - then on to New Guinea, the Solomons, the Philippines, and then was on Manus when the war ended.

My uncle was a radioman on an LCI in WesPAC and had the same patch.

I had the same thought while reading the article. No mention of the family except for the sale....

Nice history Richard. My father's class A uniform from the Korean War is hanging in my closet.
