View Full Version : Expedient Concrete Cratering, non-explosive?
Stumbled on this video of a product called Dexpan. It's an expanding agent than can do some major damage to reinforced concrete structures.
I'm thinking it would be a good tool for the 18C's,, If you have a bridge or other concrete structure you wants to weaken or destroy, but don't want to make a lot of noise?
Or you are working a hearts-n-minds project in a populated area.
The basic process is to drill a hole pattern, mix & pore the Dexpan, wait 24 hours.
It's something that needs some time and planning. And some of the reviews would suggest it is not viable for rocks formations & boulders,, maybe.

If you are doing some kind of HA work in a residential area, hospital, building or area where you can't use explosives or heavy equipment this is really nice. Their web site, you'll see HUGE concrete structures and rocks being demolished in different pictures. All the pre-drilling is my biggest complaint.

Ya, I was thinking it will not be quiet..
BUT if the object had electrical race-ways, plumbing chases, or some other predrilled access for utilities??

The Bravo can carry the drill (tell him its a new cool weapon)
The Medic can measure out the Dexpan and water (Give him big syringes).
The Charlie can spend three days figuring out which pattern to lay out to drill the holes and try to figure out how to fill the holes horizontally
Echo and TL will search through the SAVSERSUP to find the right report name ... UNDER? OVER? ROGER? VECTOR? (Airplane reference there)
TS and Fox sit back and make coffee... laugh.

Lots of potential uses for that simple slurry...both good and bad.

You were doing good right up until you dismissed the 180. You missed the back story that got the ODA involved in the first place. The Warrant was probably nuts deep in it from the get-go. Something like: a staff pogue from a non-attributable 4-letter organization sees a cool product with nebulous potential, can't get his bosses interested, so he calls his buddy who's still on an ODA (here's where the junior Warrant comes in), conducts back-channel coordination, gets his bosses who weren't interested in the first place to agree to flick the booger at USASOC (with the ODA's number attached as "POC"). USASOC promptly - without thought or analysis - tasks USASFC(A) to provide an ODA to test a new "clandestine" demo technique. USASFC(A) protests (combination of knee-jerk reaction, limited resources [our crystal ball is a little better than the one they issue ODAs], and the fact that we too are smart enough to realize the juice isn't worth the squeeze) and gets told to do it anyway "because you're a provider and you can't say no to anything". USASFC(A) calls the SFG(A), gives the S-3 the name of the "motivated" individual who did the back-channel coordination and invites the S-3 to "do your worst" to the knucklehead who volunteered for stupidity. The S3 SGM calls the B-Tm SGM who chews out the Tm SGT and the Bn Cdr sends the Warrant to work at Group for a couple of years so he can personally learn the ass-pain consequences of knuckle-heads volunteering for stupid shit outside of channels. The team is still stuck executing the bright idea that is now a tasker - and that's where your story picks up and why you don't have a Warrant on your ODA! :p

I wonder how it would work on stumps?
I'd think the grain in the wood might be problem if it's green.
If it's dry it might split just fine.
Seems like someone already thought of it.
