What a POS...and he is clearly the fattest Ranger I've ever seen. Kudos to the real soldier for holding it together and not beating his ass in public. I admire that level of restraint...of course, his wife did redirect him and save that POS-er. Hopefully, he'll be prosecuted and get his 15 minutes of fame. Here's a good interview (http://video.foxnews.com/v/3919115724001/hero-veteran-calls-out-fake-soldier-on-video/?intcmp=ob_article_sidebar_video&intcmp=obnetwork#sp=show-clips)of Sgt Ryan Berk discussing his little run-in with the lying POS-er Sean Yetman, who seems to have gone into hiding. Perhaps Sean Yetman has switched branches and is on one of his super secret Meal Team 6 missions.

That is SO photoshopped. If this was real at least ONE if not both of those snickers bars would be GOING SOMEWHERE most riki-tik.;)

Our super-sized Ranger was once arrested for posing as a deceased officer, (http://m.buckscountycouriertimes.com/news/communities/man-at-center-of-stolen-valor-case-once-impersonated-dead/article_6ab42a91-eb66-5e11-8269-95c0fe4721d8.html?mode=jqm) too. There has to be something terribly wrong with these guys.

I had a neighbor in L.A. that I can see doing this. He was about 2 years older than me, VERY into guns, did Airsoft, fat, and often said that he wished that he had gone into the Army. Well, there was a war on back then and a draft. He certainly had his chance. I showed up and my lottery number was 360. He really pissed me off!

Is there a difference between posers and scammers? In my thinking, posers put on the uniform(s) and scammers hold up cardboard signs claiming veteran status for money.

Using my definition, I believe that I was approached by a rather clever scammer a couple of years ago. We had pulled into a Walmart parking lot, with our travel trailer, in Palm Desert, CA. My wife went into the store and I waited outside with the dog. I saw a young guy wandering around and approaching various vehicles entering or leaving the parking lot. He would speak to the occupants and then they'd drive off without other interaction. This got my attention.

I went the the back of the Tahoe, opened the hatch, and sat on the bumper next to our dog's cage. Eventually he walked over to me. He told me that he was a Marine stationed at 29 Palms and needed money for gas to get back to base. He had the bearing and haircut of a Marine so I asked to see his fuel gauge. I looked and it was on empty. I told him I had 5 gallons in a fuel can that I could give him. He hesitated and said he'd come over in a few minutes.

As I was unhooking the fuel can I noticed that he was still approaching other people. So when he finally can over to the trailer, I asked to see his ID. He said he left it at his girlfriend's house and that is why he didn't have any money or credit cards. So I asked what his unit was. He could have told me anything because I didn't know the units at 29P, but he hesitated before saying anything. I pulled out my cell like I was going to call and asked who the CO was. He said, "Never mind" and went on his way. He drove out of the parking lot.

I don't know if he was a real Marine trying to scam some extra money, a former Marine doing the same, or someone who got the haircut and figured a better angle than standing on the corner with a cardboard sign.

ETA: I joined the Army before the draft lottery was instituted. My grandmother worked for the Selective Service in our county and sent me a letter informing me of what my number would have been. ;)

By definition I would have to believe they are one and the same. The key word being defraud.

scam (skæm)

n., v. scammed, scam•ming. n.
1. a fraudulent scheme; swindle.
v.t.
2. to cheat; defraud.
v.i.

Poser-v-Scammer?

The "poser", I see as a rather passive "actor", perhaps in costume, trying to have you to think they are something they are not. More passive in nature. Motive: who the hell knows?

The "scammer", I think of as more criminal in nature. The scammer lies, cheats, and actively will decieve with the intent to gain funds, employment, benefits, etc., that he/she is not entitled to.

My $.02.

Kinda sorta what my thinking is. The "Marine" in my case was not portraying himself as anything more than a sad-sack caught low on funds off base. The same is true of the beggar "vets" I've encountered. While bottom-feeders, no doubt, they are not the lowest.

There's crossover, though, in the financial gain area. Posers, sometimes, reach higher and dig deeper.

Not all of the "homeless vets" would I throw into the bottom feeder category... some are just mentally missing something.

At the Starbucks on Skibo a couple friends and I were approached by this "homeless vet", who just so happened to be the base commander, a four or five star Special Forces/Ranger who had just got done defusing a bomb from on top of the mall... talking about how he had to avoid the cameras to get to his home.

It was pretty sad, every now and then he'd have some glimpses of reality, but man, what a sad life.

Looks like the boy may have, if you'll pardon the expression, bit off more than he can chew. If that's possible. :D
