Reports say ANA troops hide from battle, can’t lead or fight at night

another one:

Army Green Berets reportedly criticize performance of Afghan army troops

The reported experiences of the Green Berets stand in stark contrast to claims made by the Pentagon that Afghan forces will be ready to take the lead in the fight against the Taliban after the departure of most U.S. troops by the end of this year. (A difference of opinion? surely not. )

Great articles. I learned much about this issue a month ago when I watched this documentary:

Camp Victory, Afghanistan - "This film chronicles the difficulties of building an effective Afghan army composed of uneducated and poverty-stricken enlistees."

I highly recommend it for those who wanna know more about this issue. Unfortunately, there's only one scene with Green Berets, but it's a GREAT documentary in my opinion. You can stream it on Netflix.

Thanks for the tip on this documentary, I'm about to check it out.

According to news reports, the remarks were made to CENTCOM investigators, not the media. The main reason ANA troops are substandard is because their capabiltiies have been whitewashed for too long.

If they have good Afghan leadership and are taken care of they can fight.
That generally does not exist.
None of them fight well at night, ANA or Talib as their night vision (vitamin deficiencies most of their lives) has most of them almost night blind.
Also, ever see (other than an officer) a soldier wearing glasses? Half of them are near sighted to begin with...they can hit that 25 meter target, maybe, but not much beyond.

Wow, although I assumed the majority of them don't have 20/20 eyesight, I wasn't aware of the night vision problem. Thanks for the info!

I've been learning a few things about the limitations of people in the Middle-East and North Africa when it comes to war. Very interesting.

Just search on Sennels and others who have poured lots of data into the topic of inbreeding among muslims and the unintended consequences of having done this for numerous generations.

Wow again! I probably overlooked the thread because of the title(maybe I thought it was off-topic stuff). Fascinating. Thanks.

Why do you think it took them so long to kick the Russians out of A-Stan.......

Anyone that's ever worked with them knows a door-mat has more intelligence.

There's a reason they still live in mud huts..............

I worked with the Afgans in the early 80's. Yeah for that. One of the toughest things to teach them was to "NOT" fire their weapons in the air after any/every enemy encounter..........

I see that tradition still holds true all over the muslim world.....

"Gen. Campbell added: “The Afghan military is the most respected institution in Afghanistan. Every poll taken in the last two years, they’re at the very, very top.”"

Polling Afghans? Does anyone have an idea how this works?

They can't read... Do you show up door to door and offer them a goat for answering, and two goats if they give you the answer you want to hear?

This is coming from a country whose Army has a goal of completely eliminating 100% of tobacco use by all Soldiers, at the same time pushing to legalize marijuana for the rest of the population.
