Politically strong-arming the President of the United States...That's a hell of a thing to attempt. Seems very close to treason...

While I disagree with our President and would love nothing more than to see him replaced with someone stronger and more capable, leaving our Military leaderless in a time where our enemy is wreaking havoc all over the world, well that's just plain stupid.

Not even remotely close to treason. Being a leader means that you sometimes have to do something that's unpopular because it's the right thing to do. He's been advised by the military leadership to put troops on the ground, but he won't do so because it's politically unpopular and there's an election coming up. Sorry, but in my book refusing to listen to the advice of professionals in the face of an serious external threat simply because it's politically expedient is the thing that borders on treason not asking generals who are upset to consider resigning.

I agree completely that Obama needs to listen to the professionals but it doesn't change the fact that these congressmen are playing with fire. Let's say they do get the military's leadership to resign, it could either have an effective outcome, or it could blow up quite literally in our faces. Now to be clear, if the Generals deem it necessary than fine, but I don't trust politicians (who also happen to be running for office) using this for their political gain either. They're both playing games and that needs to stop.

Yep. Wish more would do it.

It's not a 'simple' issue to resolve - never has been, which is why our system of government was created and adopted by its founding membership.

One of my favorite books (I have my Grandmother's 1st ed as it was one of her favorites, too):

Everybody is pretty much aware of Truman and MacArthur, but Ike had his issues, too.

As for resigning in protest - I don't see any congresscritters resigning over any of this.

And so it goes...

Its a pretty noble gesture for a politician who will get a lifetime paycheck for serving one term to ask a man who has given his entire adult for a retirement check that is laughable when compared to the sweet deal that the congressman is getting...
...sure thing bro'
I'll pack my shit today.

Thats the same fucking line of thinking that creates suicide bombers.
"dude, you should totally blow your self up to make a statement"
"dude, you should totally resign to make a statement"

....I would do it my self, but I'm too important to the movement.

OMFG our elected representatives aren't worth a popcorn fart...
...even the good ones aren't worth composting in a seattle trash can

Having said that, I don't think our current military leadership is doing a very good job of advising the POTUS, or taking care of the troops.

When you are failing at both, it might be time to step down.

A replacement of the Chairman and the service leadership, to include the NCO leadership could hardly be any worse or less effective than the ones we have right now, unless the POTUS personally selects them.

These are challenging times, but I don't think our best are really in charge.

Spot on.
IMO, there is not one 4-star worth their salt right now, not one.

How can you say that...

...we have SHARP programs
...women in combat studies
...LGBT pride month
...SHARP, LGBT, and SAFETY messages from celebrities all over AFN
...new OER/NCOER forms to better develop our subordinate leaders
...mandatory SHARP bullets in the leadership block of our evaluation reports
...new tatoo standards
...tighter uniform standards so folks aren't growing wild hairdo's
...specific guidance on what boots we can wear

Never before have we had senior leaders as involded in the professional development of our force and NOT ONCE has anyone asked us to wear an Army values tag on our ID chain.

The warfighting business may be a little fucked up right now, but thats the job of the politicians. The rest of us just do as we are told.
...and if you don't want to get on board, then we can always just leave and go to work for one of the awesome contracting organizations that the DOD currently employs..

I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.

Couldn't agree more.

Its funny how so many people can get behind one man in order to perpetuate a career.

What is even funnier is now that people have left the administration, they are now coming out and saying........"well I was against that from the start" and "we advised him against that". Makes me think that there isn't a single leader that is willing to stand up to comrade zero.

Our younger generation isn't helping much either. Generation Wuss cant seem to get behind anything other than selfish, straw man ideas, that do nothing more than perpetuate the continuation of trying to make unequal things equal.

These folks are just enhancing their resumes in order to get a shot at working for the next perceived occupant of the WH.

True across the board. I'm stealing that! With due credit of course. Really good one!

Reader's Digest version -

- Get in line behind success (even if it's bad business - look at Wall Street)

- Flip-Flop is no longer a description of foot wear in the tropics.
