According to the Pentagon, thirty-eight military men are sexually assaulted every single day.

On the morning of September 20, two weeks before the warship was due in port, three men ambushed Stovey in a remote storage area of the ship, where he'd been sent to get supplies. They threw a black hood over his head, strangled and sodomized him, then left him for dead on a stack of boxes.
Bullshit.
Isn't all gay sexual contact at GQ consensual?
Though I have no doubt that some events do occur, there is no way the numbers add up.
The main attacks were at night. When you're being dragged out of your bunk literally by your ear, you can't fight, because they're doing these funky things with your fingers, twisting them, and they're ripping your mouth open, and then they got another guy that has his fingers in your nose or in your eyes to make you open your mouth. That's what always used to bother me: I'm screaming, yelling, fighting, and nobody is even moving their curtains to look.
I went AWOL; I couldn't take it no more. I tried hanging myself. I was living in the streets, and I got arrested shoplifting, and they sent me to the brig. Then I got sent back to the same berthing area, where they started terrorizing me again. The final straw was, I was taking a shower and these guys beat me up and raped me with a toilet brush. Medical told me I probably had a hemorrhoid. I went AWOL again, then turned myself in a couple of days later. Finally my executive officer came back [proposing] I take an other-than-honorable discharge.
I may understand attacks, etc in isolated areas of the ship where the risk of discovery is low, but not being dragged out of a populated berthing area.
I sense a lot of people fabricating stories for the attention it gets them. I see little effort to corroborate claims .....
"In infantry training, I tore ligaments in my ankle. It wasn't a visible injury, so I was accused of faking it.
Oh, sweet, Jesus.....No.....Not the unverifiable self-diagnosed injury....
I have to stop reading now, I don't have my waders....

Male rape happens more than people think and is under reported. It is not bullshit. One of the crappy things you learn working in LE is just how shitty people really can be and how much of it there. is.
I am commenting only on the events described as I don't find them very believable. And I did specify that it does happen. I just do not buy the claimed numbers for rate.
And I question the complete lack of investigation by the author. All stories are accepted at face value.
There were DoD reports about the incident rates for sexual assault of women in the service and many active duty females openly questioned the claims then as exaggerated.
While sexual assault is a serious issue, over dramatizing it, does no one any good.
That crap article is long on drama and short on data.
Look at BMT's quote; 38M men per day....That can only be a world wide statistic but they provide no context. And why is sexual assault outside the military even mentioned? Probably because the claim does not hold water and little concern will be generated without exaggeration.
I do not buy into the numbers for male rape.
I do not buy the numbers, taken from survey's no less, about total sexual 'assault'.
What is sexual assault....some will tell you it is a comment, a look, making a sexual joke, inappropriate touching etc. etc.
Sexual assault is a serious business but we don't approach it is a serious manner....it has turned into a PC event for cheerleaders with an agenda.

Did you read the article? Do the claims made and stories told pass your bullshit meter? Do they seem reasonable and plausible to you?

First hand experience,
Had a Manager under me, who had the habit of just calling everyone "Babe", guys and girls alike.
He was rooming with another company Manager and his girlfriend. This girlfriend ended up transferring into said Managers department.
She took advantage of the personal relationship (room mates), and kept stepping out of line. The Manager had to pull her aside and give her a talking to.
Next day, there was a sexual harassment claim laid against him by her, for, of all things, terms of endearment, for calling her babe.
Under the companies sexual harassment policy this was real, and we had to take it seriously because of the PR issues. The guy was chewed up and spat out by the companies HR dept, all I could do was pull this young guy aside, and give him a number to a good lawyer.
Sexual Harassment my shinny white ass.

While you may not but into the numbers. I cant say how accurate they are but It happens more than I want to think about. Of course the gay community does not talk about this little issue. Granted my job tends to skew my world perception at times and not for the better. There are a lot more sickos out there than the average person realizes.

While I was in college, I worked in a Sexual Health and Violence Prevention office. We had a number of Advocates on staff whose job was to help women through the process of reporting on their assault.
Brush Okie will probably not be surprised to learn how traumatic the reporting, and prosecuting, process can be for survivors of sexual assault.
I have to side with him on this. I've heard worse stories, and I've seen guys come in to the office too. I don't think anyone here will be surprised to learn that there are some really shitty human beings on this planet, and a lot of others who just don't have the balls to do what's right.

Maybe the military should just do this:
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/09/11/us/california-bill-sets-sights-on-curbing-campus-sex-assaults.html?_r=0
California is poised to become the first state to require all colleges that receive state funds to strengthen their policies on sexual assault by mandating that students give active consent to one another before all sexual activity, either by saying “yes” to a spoken query or by signaling assent in a nonverbal way.
At the session, new students were quizzed on ways they could obtain consent from a partner. From the audience, they shouted suggestions: Ask “Are you O.K.?” every few minutes, or go in only partway for a kiss and let your partner meet you halfway.
Dianne Klein, a spokeswoman for the University of California System, which adopted a new affirmative consent policy in March, said a “yes” could be a vigorous head nod, or active engagement in the sexual activity, as long as it was “unambiguous and voluntary.”
I guess, the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" has nothing to do with the increase?
Same sex date, get drunk, have sex and feel guilty or hate the person for not calling back. Report the date as a rape; we all know that has never happened before......
Stay safe.
Just found this article and found it to be timely since the posting of this thread.

Myth: Only gay men are sexually assaulted.
Reality: Heterosexual, gay and bisexual men are equally likely to be sexually assaulted. Being sexually assaulted has nothing to do with your current or future sexual orientation. Your sexuality has no more to do with being raped than being robbed.
Myth: Only gay men sexually assault other men.
Reality: Most men who sexually assault other men identify themselves as heterosexual. This fact helps to highlight another reality that sexual assault is about violence, anger and control over another person, not lust or sexual attraction.

http://www.secasa.com.au/pages/myths-about-male-rape/You missed my entire point!
Great link and info.
It is odd to me that many of the inmates that sexually assault other inmates do not identify as homosexual. Also most of the child molesters that sexually assault males do not identify as homosexual. Now IMHO one man touching another in that manner (excluding a rape victim of course) is a homosexual act and puts you in the category of homosexual or bisexual etc etc.If you're in an institution, with no contact with the opposite sex, what would you expect?
I did not miss your point and I agree. However sexual assault is something that happens more then people realize. Letting gays in will only increase the male on male assaults not to mention the hurt feelings and false accusations etc. Just because a "sexual" assault is reported does NOT make it true....
Sexual assault: unwanted sexual contact that stops short of rape or attempted rape. This includes sexual touching and fondling. (But, be aware: Some states use this term interchangeably with rape.)
Yet! It's reported/documented and if found NOT true; you don't hear about accuser submitting a false report....
The accused, is guilty and fucked from the get go!
I'm older now however, if I could go back and file charges against women (Yntema Club aka, Stab & Jab) whom have, taken advantage of this QP while I was in a state of altered mental status (especially the ugly ones that were plowing me with drinks):o. Bitches would be in trouble!
Now, before anyone gets their thongs in a twist! I'm not referring to "all" women (and some men) as beeyootches. I'm just "trying" too say that, actions have consequences.
Agoge2,
That MFer is a BITCH! I would have told no one that story and I know some RANGERS would've enjoyed that moment.:p

Several stories seem so made up out of that article. HIV positive? The soldiers that raped him would also be positive and be tossed out. That would be an easy investigation! More likely, he had several homosexual encounters before and came up HIV+ and concocted the story to shift blame from himself.
The story with the soap bars sounds like it was straight out of Full Metal Jacket plus a broom stick. If you were bleeding from your behind that badly I would think you would go to the hospital. That would be a little hard to hide. The infection that would ensue would certainly send you to the TMC.
I have seen what would be considered harassment today, what we called hazing back then. But none of it EVER went to the level of sexual assault/contact. Naked buffer riding seemed to be a sport at one time.
http://www.popscreen.com/v/6O8tr/Riding-A-Floor-Buffer-FAIL
...Long story short I told him it amazed me how he would get flack for being gay yet many of the so called "straight" inmates perform homosexual acts. He said yea, I would be surprised how many of these so called straight men are not. For example. Getting a hand job from another inmates is not gay but giving one is. I really do not want to get more graphic than that, but suffice to say IMHO both are a couple of fairies and the situation just goes down hill from there...
Yep...in the prison community, the "pitchers" have never considered themselves gay, they only refer to the "catchers" as being gay. In fact, as you already know, they don't even refer to them as males. They call them by their female names and use purely female pronouns to describe them.
As the new inmates enter the system, they are indoctrinated into their "pitcher - catcher" system by the older inmates and told they aren't gay for following the practices.
I suspect they tell themselves whatever they have to in order to live with themselves.

Not any more. Now that we have women on ships, we get to enjoy personel shortages for deployments as large numbers of women seem to just happen to get pregnant a couple months before deploying.
Look into the USS Eishehower deployment of 1998. We called it The Love Boat as 40+ women went home preggers.....
The non-combatant ships have been dealing with for longer....
