Been my favorite actor (foremost) and comedian. Know literally all his movies - even a few way too good. The world lost one of the greatest artist of its time.

I urge you to watch his 2h Inside the actors studio special, served for me as a source for laughter and insight for years.

RIP Robin McLaurin Williams

O Captain my Captain! our fearful trip is done;
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought is won;
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting,
While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring:

But O heart! heart! heart!
O the bleeding drops of red,
Where on the deck my Captain lies,
Fallen cold and dead.

This saddens me greatly. He was my favorite comedian. I pray he finds the peace he was so desperate for. Thank you Mr. Williams for all the laughs and smiles you gave the world and my family. Rest In Peace.

RIP Robin Williams, I'm very sad to hear of your passing.

A side note for individuals with family members or friends who have had struggles with suicide, from Dr. Cialdani's book Influence, when there is a high profile suicide, there are many more suicides than normal for the following weeks IIRC, I think it's at least a multiple of 3, it could be 7.

If you have that family member or friend, check up on them.

That's so terribly sad.

His movies were apart of my childhood growing up. I can still remember watching 'Jumanji' and 'Good Morning Vietnam' as a kid.

Rest in peace Robin Williams, you will be missed.

Hard to believe that someone with his talent and success would do that.

Goodbye Mr. Williams, you were one of my favorites.

This is such a loss for the film world. Robin has always had his demons, so sorry to hear that he succumb to his own.

RIP Mork Nanu Nanu.

There are no words to describe what I'm feeling. I grew up watching reruns of Mork and Mindy. I watched Good Morning Viet Nam and remember thinking, "You can do that in the Army?" Dead Poets Society taught me several things about what it is to be a teacher and a student. I know it's corny, but I always wanted to stand on a desk and say, "Oh Captain, my Captain." I never found a teacher worthy enough. For the first time in a long, long time I felt that urge again.

I pray that he finds the peace in death that he struggled to find in life.

Welton Academy, hello. Yes he is, just a moment. Mr. Nolan, it's for you. It's God. He says we should have girls at Welton.

Sucking the marrow out of life doesn't mean choking on the bone.

Great movie....

He will be missed.

It was 1976 or 1977 when I was hustling across campus at noon time. A lunchtime crowd was forming in the grassy square where a long haired dude in a tie dyed t-shirt with red suspenders was getting ready to perform. If I recall correctly, he may have done a few magic tricks first then he started doing comedy. Funniest person I have ever seen in person.

A Robin Williams NYC story. Mid 1980’s: Estella is walking down Columbus Ave. with her best friend and spots Robin Williams walking towards her, she screams “Oh my God, it’s Robin Williams”! He screams back “Oh My God, Robin Williams, Where”? A perfect NYC moment.

Perhaps we can extend this thread from move lines of his and random quotes. He certainly was quotable. This was from Jack. Not his best work, but a great thought.

“Please, don’t worry so much. Because in the end, none of us have very long on this Earth. Life is fleeting. And if you’re ever distressed, cast your eyes to the summer sky when the stars are strung across the velvety night. And when a shooting star streaks through the blackness, turning night into day, make a wish, and think of me. Make your life spectacular.”

on the lighter side...

“Oh, Al. I’m getting kinda fond of you, kid. Not that I wanna pick out curtains or anything.” – Genie, Aladdin

On Monday, Koko overheard Dr. Penny Patterson, her mentor and surrogate mother, talking on the phone about Williams’ death. “She became extremely sad,” Patterson wrote on Koko.org.

“Robin’s ability to just ‘hang out’ with Koko, a gorilla, and in minutes become one of her closest friends, was extraordinary and unforgettable,” Patterson continued in a tribute post to Williams, who was an ambassador for Great Ape conservation.

‘He Brought Them Light’: How Robin Williams Turned his USO Tours into Personal Experiences for Troops

Tuesday, August 12, 2014

By Eric Brandner

Today, the audience gets to tell the story.

The photos of service members posing with Robin Williams flowing through social media feeds the past 24 hours say more than any condolence statement could.

There is Williams with a pair of female service members in Djibouti in 2004. Posing with a soldier after a long flight at Camp Speicher, Iraq, in 2007. Signing autographs during a holiday tour of Afghanistan in late 2010.

Those were hard times for people in uniform. But for a moment, Williams managed to make almost everyone he met in those conflict zones smile.

“There were these guys behind a fence, across a berm [and] a field, and they waved at him,” said USO Vice President of Entertainment Rachel Tischler, recalling her time with Williams during the 2007 USO Chairman’s Holiday Tour. “And he jumped across the berm and went running over to them. Obviously, our security team completely freaked out. Again – height of the war here. But he didn’t care. He just wanted to go over and shake their hands and thank them. And that is what he was like.”

A friend and entertainer to American service members around the globe, Williams was found dead in his Tiburon, California, home Monday afternoon in what the Marin County Sheriff’s Office characterized as a suspected suicide. He was 63.

Williams went on six USO tours from 2002 to 2013, including five overseas. He visited troops in 12 foreign countries, making three stops to both Iraq and Afghanistan.
