Thanks!!

For this ineterested:

a short description on Chanukah:

http://www.jafi.org.il/education/fe...alendar/13.html

Bottom line is as with most Jewish festivals; "They tried to kill us, we won, let's eat!"

Seriousely though, interesting story, we kicked the Hellenics out of out Temple and miraculousely oil that enough was to burn only one night, lasted 8 nights, hence we light the candles...

read all about it..Judah The Maccabee, a great warrior.

Masada is a pretty good story of combat as well, but doesn't turn out quite as nicely.

Indeed, not sure how i feel about that one, the Zealots on Masada i mean.

It's really amazing to go up Masada and see a mini-city on top of this mountain, relaly amazing. many units in the IDF hold their inuguration as well as there "end of basics" ceremonies there.

Happy Chanukah!

As for Masada: The book and TV miniseries came out when I was in high school. I lived near the foothills of the Sacramento Mountains (New Mexico), and could see a nice plateau (flat top mountain) from my house. I was a cross country runner, and used to go to the mountains for good training. I called the run to the plateau "going to Masada". It was a good nine mile up and down run, and I always thought of the warriors that held out in Masada when I did that run. It was quite inspirational. :lifter

Man I love that area! I'm trying to convince Osama Bin Mama we need to live in Timberon. Damn City Girl! I got to pick better next time. I would have DXd her because of it already, but The Kid seems fond of her.

Not sure if you guys will find this funny, or awkward but here goes...Yesterday one of the "crazy old SF guys" (his words) here at the BN gave out Chanukah cookies with the Star of David on them to all the German guards here on post. He reported somewhat crestfallen that they didnt seem to get it and munched happily on them with danke all around.
