May they all rest in peace..

Both my mom (Army) and dad (Navy) served in WW II. Pop request burial at sea and mom is now resting in Arlington. My uncle Jimmy (Marines) did not survive his first assault at Tarawa. He was 19 YO. His burial plot was lost. He is still there. My uncle Lenard (Army, SS) fought in North Africa, under Patton.

Add your photos and remembrances..

HH-53 Super Jolly Green Pilot.

Just got back from a rescue mission over SEA 1970.

Dad was an HH-53 crew chief in SEA 69-71. He loved those Super Jolly pilots and crews, said they were the finest people he ever served with, even if they were wild and nuts, and was very proud of the Jolly Green footprint. Will set a penny there on my next Arlington visit.

Before my grandmother passed, we took her to the WW2 museum in New Orleans and attended on Memorial Day. It would be her last vacation. That day was bittersweet and it felt surreal to see her stepping back in time. They truly were the greatest generation. She was a nurse and volunteered to go overseas and help in Europe. My grandfather was a paratrooper and they met and the rest is history.

The other photos are from SSgt Stephen Michael New's memorial service. The Patriot Guard stood next to us and I'm forever thankful of that. I pass his grave site almost every single day on my way home. I miss you, brother. We all do.

This is a copy of the graves reregistration card for PFC James Bernard Johnson, USMC, as created and updated several times. If you scrub the info, you can see the recording process was not accurate nor was it precise. A team was sent to Betio in 1949 to recover those left behind. They managed to find only 10-15 % of the Marines. There are still teams looking, but with very little success.

Here are a few of my ancestors who I think of. The first is Frank Clark who sided with the North and amazingly enough lived to be 97 years old. The second is Frank's grandson Ernie Clark who rose to be a Lt. Col. in the Air Force. The last picture is my great-uncle Glen Clayton who had some difficulty moving around when I knew him. He was at the Chosin Reservior. Although this is a picture thread I would like to mention my father who served in the Pacific during WWII even though I have no photos.

Edit: My apologies to the community for confusing Memorial Day with Veterans Day. I am old enough to know better.

Taken by our 9yo daughter after talking about the stats that lead up to Freedom is not Free portion of the Korean War Memorial. She saw the moment and took it on her own.

On our way to FL this Memorial Day, the family and I stopped by the Airborne and Special Operations museum near Ft Bragg. A sobering experience to say the least. This Memorial Day, the family and I extend the deepest thanks and gratitude for those who can't celebrate with us. Here's to those who gave all, and the brothers and family members who carry on their memory. Prost.
