A father holds the body of his child as South Vietnamese Army Rangers look down from their armored vehicle. Survivors huddle together after an attack by government troops. A dead U.S. soldier, covered by a sheet, lies on the battlefield in Vietnam.

Horst Faas, a Pulitzer Prize-winning combat photographer who became one of the world’s legendary photojournalists in nearly half a century with the AP, captured these images during the Vietnam War. Faas died Thursday, May 10, 2012 in Munich at age 79.

Here’s a look at some of the powerful photographs by Faas in Vietnam. (AP)

Powerful photos. I'll probably never know what United States Service Members go through during war, but I imagine 'War Is Hell' expresses succinctly, as well as words can, 'WAR', to a person like me who will probably never experience it.

Every man and woman who has served our country is a hero. Thank you for making the world a better place. Your sacrifice should not be forgotten!

When I joined PS.com, I remember seeing this quote in QP MR2's signature and not knowing what it meant, but after googling it, it has stuck with me. I hope I am not taking it out of context:

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time." Tolstoy

The Mother's, Father's, Wive's, Husband's, their children, Sister's, and Brother's of our Service Members are heroic as well, and your sacrifice should not be forgotten!
